If M > 2, third means are provided for generating, depending on the respective recording data in predetermined combinations of said sets of recording data excluding the set corresponding to the (M-1 )-th preceding cycle, respective signals for energizing a respective heating element during each of the second to (M-1 )-th subperiods.

In this driving device, the time difference between the start of pulse application to a heat generating element of the recording head (10) and that to an adjacent element is maintained not exceeding the maximum pulse duration to the heat generating element. Also a group of plural heat generating elements positioned at the boundary of two divided blocks is activated simultaneously with each of the two divided blocks.
