This invention relates to a pneumatic transfer line (1) for transferring rod-shaped elements in a cigarette making line (100), and which comprises a plurality of pneumatic ducts (2) located in succession along a path ("P"). Each pneumatic duct (2) extends between a receiving station (3) and an arrival station (4) and defines within it a working stretch ("O") of the path ("P") along which the rod-shaped elements are fed pneumatically by effect of the expansion of a compressed fluid injected into the pneumatic duct (2) itself. Two consecutive working stretches ("O") are alternated with a transfer stretch ("T") of the path ("P") extending between the arrival station (3) of one pneumatic duct (2) and the receiving station (4) of the pneumatic duct (2) located immediately downstream in the travel direction ("A") of the rod-shaped elements. The transfer stretch ("T") is in communication with an environment outside the pneumatic ducts (2).

A platform (42) supports product and is movable along a closed path between a loading position adjacent to the first product conveyance mechanism (12) and a transfer position adjacent to an output in the form of a second product conveyance mechanism (22) spaced from the first product conveyance mechanism (12) in the conveying direction. The platform (42) in the loading position receives the product in the continuous stream from the first product conveyance mechanism (12) and is then accelerated to a speed greater than the first product conveyance mechanism (12) creating a gap between the product supported on the platform (42) and the product remaining in the continuous stream on the first product conveyance mechanism (12). A sweep bar (52ba) is inserted into the gap and abuts with the product on the platform (42) for assisting transfer of the product on the platform (42) to the output.

At least one branch processing station (6, 14, 16) is positioned intermediate the beginning and the end of the trunk wherein the branch processing station during its operation performs at least one process on articles of manufacture conveyed on the branch processing station and where the articles are conveyed in a second mode of motion. At least one transfer device (86) is positioned intermediate the trunk and the branch processing station to continuously extract articles of manufacture from the trunk and transition the movement of the extracted articles of manufacture from the first mode of motion to the second mode of motion for transfer to the branch processing station. The transfer device also extracts each of the processed articles of manufacture from the branch processing station and transitions the movement of the articles from the second mode of motion to the first mode of motion for transfer to the trunk.

Bei einem Verfahren zum Bereitstellen von Flaschen od. dgl. für eine Flaschenbehandlungsanlage werden erfindungsgemäß die Flaschen bei Nichtvorhandensein eines Pulks vor der eigentlichen Behandlungsmaschine mit hoher Geschwindigkeit im wesentlichen drucklos zugeführt, zur Bildung eines Pulks mehrspurig aufgestaut und dieser Pulk auf eine der jeweiligen Entnahmeleistung der Behandlungsmaschine angepaßte Fördergeschwindigkeit eingestellt, wobei der jeweilige Pulk bzw. ein Bereich des Pulks mit einer der Befüll- und/oder Entnahmegeschwindigkeit angepaßten mittleren Geschwindigkeit bewegt wird, derart, daß in allen Bereitstellungsphasen Geschwindigkeitsverhältnisse V F (Flasche) = V B (Band) vorliegen. Mit diesem Verfahren sollen Stör- bzw. Änderungsfaktoren innerhalb eines Förderabschnittes sowie der dazugeordneten Behandlungsmaschinen unmittelbar erfaßt und anderseits eine Flaschenbereitstellung gesichertsein, ohne daß im jeweiligen Zuförderabschnitt wesentliche Impulsgeräusche infolge aufeinandertreffender Gruppen von Gefä-θen oder Einzeigefäßen auftreten. Gleichzeitig soll eine mechanische Trennung der Funktionen Transportieren und Puffern erzielt werden.

Bei einem Verfahren zur Ermittlung des Befüllungsgrades von Pufferstrecken zwischen Gefäßbehandlungsanlagen und zur kontinuierlichen Regelung der Durchsatzleistung in derartigen Behandlungsanlagen wird der Befüllungsgrad der Puffer anhand der Durchsatzleistung der in der Zeichnung dargestellten Maschinen (M1, M2) vor und hinter jedem Puffer und der Geschwindigkeit der Transportbänder (3) durch rechnerische Verfolgung der Gefäße im Bereich der Pufferstrecke mittels Prozeßrechner ermittelt. Im Gegensatz zu bekannten Verfahren der parziellen Beeinflussung einer Behandlungsinsel ist mit der vorliegenden Erfindung dementgegen sichergestellt, daß auch Abweichungen von dem idealen Abgabeverhalten bzw. der betreffenden Durchsatzleistung der auseinanderliegenden, also nicht unmittelbar vor- oder hintereinander geschalteten Maschinen, unmittelbar in die Regelung eingreifen.
