The foregoing video signal reproducing apparatus is particularly suited for reproducing a color video signal that includes a wide band luminance signal, in which case the comb-filter passband characteristic of the filter circuit is selected or emphasized so as to reduce noise near the color subcarrier frequency, to avoid displacement of a reproduced picture of high definition in the vertical direction and also to avoid interference caused by the vertical non-correlation component of a color picture.
