A method is disclosed for determining a component of the response of a reservoir to tidal forces (such as the amplitude of variation or delay time) in a hydrocarbons reservoir. That method comprises measuring a variable responsive to tidal forces within the reservoir over a measurement time period, determining a theoretical earth-tide for the reservoir over that measurement time period, and determining the component of the response to tidal forces by comparing the variable measurements and the theoretical earth-tide determinations. Examples of variables that are responsive to the tidal forces are fluid level in a borehole, pressure, and borehole stress. The measurement time period should be sufficiently long so that both a maximum and a minimum variable measurement are achieved during that time period (e.g., fourteen or twenty-four hours).

Apparatus for conducting a gravimetry survey of an earth formation surrounding a borehole comprises a tool 10 which houses a pair of piezoelectric transducers 21, 25 located at spaced apart positions within the logging tool. Each transducer 21, 25 is loaded with a known mass 23, 26 and excited electrically so as to vibrate at a characteristic resonant frequency. The period of vibration of each transducer 21, 25 is measured as the tool 10 continuously traverses the borehole and the difference in the measured periods of vibration is determined as a measure of gravity gradient along the borehole.

The present disclosure provides an apparatus, a system and methods to influence a rate of at least one chemical reaction and/or a biological process and/or a phase transition process. The apparatus may include a computing device, a EM source assembly configured to provide electromagnetic radiation, a magnetic assembly configured to provide a magnetic field in a signal-generation region, and a guiding device coupled to the EM source assembly. The guiding device may be configured to guide the electromagnetic radiation provided by the EM source assembly along a guiding direction and into the signal-generation region, wherein the magnetic field in the signal-generation region may be perpendicular to the guiding direction of the guiding device. The apparatus may further include a focus area for outputting a gravitational radiation generated in the signal-generation region when the electromagnetic radiation of the EM source assembly interacts with the magnetic field provided by the magnet assembly. The focus area may be directed to at least partially cover the at least one chemical reaction and/or the biological process and/or the phase transition process. A control sample including the same at least one chemical reaction and/or biological process and/or phase transition process may be arranged outside the focus area and may be used for comparison with the probe to determine an influence thereon.

The invention relates to a method for measuring an external parameter (a) by atomic interferometry, using two sets of atoms (11, 12) that belong to different species. Two measurements are taken simultaneously at the same location, but independently from one another, in order to obtain two measurement results (P11, P12). One (P12) of these measurement results removes an indeterminacy among several possible values of the external parameter (a), by taking into account only the other measurement result (P11). A method of this kind can be used to measure a coordinate of a gravitational field or a coordinate of an acceleration of the atoms.
