A doctoring system is disclosed for cleaning a moving surface in a papermaking machine, and the doctoring system includes a doctor blade and fluid assist system. The doctor blade(24) is coupled to a doctor blade holder(lθ), and the doctor blade holder(lθ) is coupled to a doctor-back (14 ). The fluid assist system is for providing a fluid under positive pressure that is higher than atmospheric pressure. The fluid is directed in a direction generally opposite a direction of movement of the moving surface (28) such that fluid of high momentum is provided to impinge on water resident within the moving surface and adjacent a leading edge of the doctor blade (24) during movement of the moving surf ace (28).

Specifically, the present invention relates to a linear traversing device comprising an inductor type linear motor comprising an electrical stator winding (1), a conductive platen (S) extending over an entire traverse lenght of the device, a ferromagnetic material (7) affixed to said conductive platen (6), a support means (3) for supporting the device and maintaining and air-gap between the stator winding (1) and the conductive platen (6), a user selected feed forward velocity map (10) for driving the device, a controller that controls a movement of the device according to the user selectred feed forward velocity map (10).

A filter backflushing system including an accumulator containing a pressurized bladder which propels a supply of backwash fluid contained within the accumulator in a reverse direction through a filter element. While the backwash fluid is pumped within the accumulator, an inert gas inside the bladder is compressed against the inside walls of the accumulator. Upon reaching a pressure of approximately 300-600 psi, the filtered fluid is released from the accumulator and the full energy of the compressed gas is released as well. This release produces a high pressure rapid burst of backwash fluid which effectively removes clogging contaminants from a filter element.
