Die Erfindung betrifft auch Vorrichtungen zum Warmstauchen.

Provided are a lanthanum target for sputtering which has a recrystallized structure with an average crystal grain size of 100 µm or less and has no spotty macro patterns on the surface; and a method of producing a lanthanum target for sputtering, wherein lanthanum is melted and cast to produce an ingot, the ingot is subject to knead forging at a temperature of 300 to 500°C and subsequently subject to hot upset forging to form the shape into a rough target shape, and this is additionally subject to machining to obtain a target. This invention aims to offer technology for efficiently and stably providing a lanthanum target for sputtering which has no spotty macro patterns on the surface, and a method of producing the same.

A method for producing a high strength workpiece material includes the steps of: placing an alloy material 10 into a central space of a cylindrical mold 2; vertically compressing both end faces of the material in the central space with a press member 5 and a first support member 3, thereby causing one lengthwise end of the material to flow radially outward along an end face of the cylindrical mold 2 to form an expanded part; bringing the press member 5 into contact with a lengthwise end face of the expanded part so as to press the expanded part against the end face of the cylindrical mold 2; and increasing the distance between the press member 5 and the end face of the cylindrical mold 2 while decreasing the distance between the press member 5 and the first support member 3, thereby continuously causing the radially outward flow from one end to another end of the material to gradually increase the thickness of the expanded part.

There are provided a high silicon stainless steel with a high elongation at break, a spring made thereof, and a process for manufacturing the high silicon stainless steel. The high silicon stainless steel of the invention is characterized in : mainly comprising a microstructure with a grain size of 15 µm or less and having an elongation at break of 12% or higher; mainly comprising a microstructure with a grain size of 7 µm or less and having an elongation at break of 14 % or higher; or having an elongation at break of 7% or higher after thermal aging. The process of the invention for manufacturing the high silicon stainless steel is characterized in comprising a load application step for applying an impact load and/or a static load to the high silicon stainless steel or the master alloy, wherein the surface temperature is in a temperature range of 950°C or below and not so low as to break the high silicon stainless steel or the master alloy. The high silicon stainless steel with a high elongation at break can provide a long-life spring.
