    摘要: A rolling method and apparatus permits a long metal blank to be rolled across its width at high rolling speed. A sun roller 2, is mounted on a machine stand 1, and a plurality of planetary rollers 9, is mounted for rolling movement around the sun roller 2. The long metal blank 14 is rolled by feeding it between the sun roller 2, and the set of planetary rollers 9, in the axial direction of the rollers. In another embodiment, a backing-up housing 28 is mounted on the machine stand 1 around a set of planetary rollers 29. The long metal blank 14 is rolled by feeding it between the set of planetary rollers 29 and the backing-up housing 28 in the axial direction of the rollers.

    摘要: Rolling mill apparatus including a pair of roll assemblies (10,12) each constituted by a rotatably mounted support roll (14,16) and a plurality of work rolls (18,20) spaced around said support roll. So that the mill will be capable of relatively high reductions and will require only a relatively low power input, the work rolls are backed by respective cradle elements (22,24) and means are provided whereby each work roll (18,20) and its respective cradle elements (22,24) are initially positioned in readiness for a bite by the work roll into a workpiece being fed between the roll assemblies, said work roll and cradle element roll together through an arc of movement in which a bite into the workpiece is taken, and said work roll and cradle element are then caused to precess around the support roll (14,16) to their initial positions relative to said support rolls.

    摘要: A titanium slab is appropriate for hot rolling, is produced by electron beam melting furnace, has superior linearity so that it can be fed into a hot rolling machine without performing breaking down process or other subsequent correcting process after production, and has good structure having no cracks at the corner parts. A process for production thereof is also provided. The titanium slab is directly produced by a mold of an electron beam melting furnace, and has the deformation of not more than 5 mm for the thickness direction versus the longitudinal direction and deformation of not more than 2.5 mm for the width direction versus the longitudinal direction, both per a length of 1000 mm of the slab. The process for production of this titanium slab for hot rolling has a step of using an electron beam melting furnace in which its rectangular mold has mold walls of a long side and mold walls of a short side, and a step of pouring molten metal from one of the mold walls of a short side. Furthermore, a mold having chamfered parts at the corner parts can be used in the process.
