The present invention addresses the problem of providing a packaging container having a novel trapezoidal cross section, and a production method for said container. [Solution] A packaging container is obtained by vertically sealing a web-shaped packaging material to form a tube, filling the interior of the tube-shaped packaging material, horizontally sealing the tube-shaped packaging material in the transverse direction, forming pillow-shaped packaging bodies, cutting away the individual pillow-shaped packaging bodies, folding along the creases to form a top wall, side walls and a bottom wall, and attaching the fins and flaps thus formed to the abovementioned walls to form the final shape. The top wall and bottom wall have a trapezoidal and a rectangular shape, respectively; the transverse cross-sectional shape of the packaging container body formed by the four ridgelines that connect the four corner points of the top wall and the four corner points of the bottom wall is trapezoidal and the horizontal top wall protrudes towards one side wall.
