A spring member is disposed between the upper terminal stud and the lower terminal stud and biases the upper terminal stud and the lower member away from one another. The essentially capacitive part (C) and the essentially inductive part (I) are mechanically interconnected in such a way as to enable the transmission of a clamping couple applied to the envelope (6) to the essentially capacitive lower part (C). The invention is characterised in that the mandrel (8) can be elastically deformed in such a way as to compensate the effects of the dilation of the insulator (7).

A plurality of ultrasound whistles (24) formed into a ceramic core (22) of a conventional spark plug (10) used in a cylinder of a gasoline combustion engine for greatly improved air fuel mixture prior to ignition. The spark plug (10) with ultrasound whistles (24) provides for increased engine performance and acceleration, improved fuel mileage, and an improved air fuel mixture thereby reducing fuel emissions into the environment. The ultrasound whistles (24) are constructed in the form of whistle holes (26). The whistle holes (26) are disposed around a circumference of the ceramic core (22) in a spaced relationship from the spark plug's electrode (20). Around the top of the small closed end whistle holes are upwardly extending lips (28). The combined structure of the whistle holes (26) and the upwardly extending lips (28) increase the speed of the air fuel mixture creating a more homogenous air fuel mixture before and during ignition in the engine cylinder.

A direct injection combustion engine includes a combustion chamber that includes a fuel intake port, an air intake port and a spark plug insertion opening. A spark plug includes a firing electrode, a ground electrode, and an insulator core nose. The spark plug is installed in the spark plug insertion opening so that the firing electrode, the ground electrode, and the insulator core nose extend into the chamber. A shield is positioned between the fuel intake port and the spark plug insertion opening and reduces the flow of fuel from the fuel intake port to the insulator core nose without preventing the flow of fuel to a spark gap formed between the firing electrode and the ground electrode.
