The crane is configured such that during crane operation, the moment generated by the counterweight unit acts on the rotating bed predominantly through the counterweight support frame. Alternatively, the crane can include a mast connected to the rotating bed and a counterweight support beam moveably connected to the rotating bed and a tension member connected between the mast and the counterweight support beam; and a counterweight unit supported on the counterweight support beam in a moveable relationship with respect to the counterweight support beam. In some embodiments the same basic crane is configured to be set-up with two different counterweight options, i) the first option having a counterweight unit directly supported on the counterweight support frame and a counterweight unit movement device connected so as to move the counterweight unit with respect to the counterweight support frame, and ii) the second option having a counterweight support beam moveably connected to the remainder of the rotating bed and a counterweight unit supported on the counterweight support beam, with the counterweight unit movement device connected so as to move the counterweight support beam with respect to the counterweight support frame.

The arm (36) and linear actuation device (38) are connected between the rotating bed (20) and the counterweight unit such that extension and retraction of the linear actuation device (38) changes the position of the counterweight unit compared to the rotating bed (20). In one method of operation, the counterweight is never supported by the ground during crane pick, move and set operations other than indirectly by the ground engaging members (14, 16) on the carbody (12). The linear actuation device can include at least one rack and pinion assembly (636) or hydraulic cylinder. In another embodiment, the crane comprises a counterweight movement structure including a rack and pinion assembly (636) having housing (720) and a rack (710), the rack (710) having a rectangular cross section with first and second sides (712, 714) opposite one another and third and fourth sides (712, 733) opposite one another, and having teeth on the first side and second sides (712, 714), and at least first and third pinion gears (716, 718) engaged with the teeth (722) on the first side of the rack and second and fourth pinion gears (732, 734) engaged with the teeth on the second side of the rack, and wherein each pinion gear is driven by a separate hydraulic motor, and wherein the motor driving the first pinion gear (731) is mounted on the housing (720) adjacent an opposite side of the rack (710) from the motor driving the third pinion gear (733), and wherein the motor driving the second pinion gear (732) is mounted on the housing (720) adjacent an opposite side of the rack from the motor (794) driving the fourth pinion gear (734). In another embodiment the crane includes a counterweight support structure attached to the counterweight unit. The counterweight support structure includes at least two ground engaging members that can provide support to the counterweight in the event of a sudden release of the load. The support structure comprises a telescoping structure connected to and between the ground engaging members such that the distance between the ground engaging members can be adjusted between a first and second position.

A shock and vibration isolator (540) for the camera has a vertical axis system, including a base (548), an arm (558) pivotably attached to the base, and at least one spring (566) connected to the base and to the arm. One or more dampeners (590) are connected to the base and to the arm. A horizontal axis system (610) is supported by the vertical axis system. A leveling linkage (602) connects the vertical and horizontal axis systems. The leveling linkage has adjustment features that allow for compensation of camera lens angulation caused by movement of the camera (536) supported on a vehicle (32) rolling over rough or uneven ground.

Diese Einstellachse 28 verläuft in Längsrichtung des Auslegers 10. Mittels einer mechanisch oder hydraulisch betätigbaren Blockiereinrichtung kann die Schwenkstellung des Seilrollenkopfes 31 gegenüber dem Ausleger 10 auch blockiert werden.
