Es wird ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zum Schneiden eines Negativfilms nach den Vorgaben einer Schnittliste unter Verwendung einer Synchronisationseinrichtung zur Synchronisation zweier Bildspeicher beschrieben. Das Negativschnittverfahren und die Schnittvorrichtung ermöglichen eine bildgenaue Synchronisation mit höchster Funktionssicherheit und minimalem Verschleiß und erlauben mit Hilfe einer Synchronisationseinrichtung die Bilder zweier Bilddatenspeicher miteinander zu vergleichen. Dabei wird ein Negativfilm und eine digitalisierte Schnittvorlage synchronisiert und bei der Synchronisation die Positionsänderung eines ersten Negativfilms als kodiertes Signal an eine Detektoreirichtung (2B) übertragen, mit Hilfe der übertragenen Kodierung die zum ersten Bildspeicher korrespondierenden Bilder aus einem zweiten digitalen Bildspeicher bildgenau synchronisiert und die Bilder der Schnittvorlage auf einer Datenausgabeeinheit (3) gezeigt.
