Subsequently, the portion-to-be-crimped 1d' is curved toward the outer circumferential surface of the insulator 2 to thereby be crimped, whereby the preliminarily compressed sealing-material-powder layers 162a and 162b are formed into a compressed sealing-material-powder layer 61 which satisfies 0.5≤M≤1.3 and 0.5≤L≤2 × (M × 4.5), wherein L mm represents height as measured in the direction of the axis O, and M mm represents thickness as measured radially with respect to the axis O.

    摘要: A spark discharge igniter for gas turbine engines and the like. The igniter includes a tubular metal shell (10) (12) (14) and a relatively long ceramic insulator (16) inserted in the shell and rigidly secured (14) (22) to the shell near one end thereof. A metal collar (40) is fitted tightly between the insulator and shell at the end opposite the rigidly secured end. The collar is initially in the form of a split ring (40') installed on the insulator prior to assembly of the insulator into the shell. The ring is extruded into the tightly fitting collar in the course of inserting the insulator into the shell.

    摘要: A corona igniter including a hermetic combustion seal between an insulator and center electrode is provided. The combustion seal includes a metallic coating, such as a nickel-based layer applied to a layer of molybdenum-manganese, and the metallic coating is disposed on the insulator inner surface. Optionally, a shot of copper-based powder can be disposed on a head of the center electrode. The center electrode and/or the copper-based powder is then brazed to the metallic coating on the inner surface of the insulator. The process can include applying the metallic coating to the inner surface while applying a metal coating to an outer surface of the insulator. The method further includes brazing the center electrode and/or the copper-based powder to the metallic coating on the inner surface while brazing the metal coating on the outer surface to a metal shell.
