    摘要: The invention relates to circulating subs for use in wellbores, particularly but not exclusively to circulating subs used during downhole drilling operations. The apparatus of the present invention is characterised by controlling means for controlling the movement of a sleeve between first (closed) and second (open) positions; the controlling means comprising: a control member (24) slidably mounted in a body (4) and moveable by fluid pressure in the body (4) in a first axial direction relative to the body (4); a spring (38) biasing the control member (24) in an opposite axial direction of the body (4); a pin (48) secured to one of the body (4) and the control member (24); and a control groove (32) in which a portion of the pin (48) is received formed in the other of the body (4) and the control member (24), the central groove (32) being shaped to limit axial displacement of the control member (24) in response to pressure variations in the body (4) such that only after a predetermined number of movements of the control member (24) to a first limit position is the control member (24) able to move to a second limit position to displace the sleeve (52) into the second position of the sleeve (52). The present apparatus thereby has the advantage over the prior art of being reliable and convenient to use, and compatible with the use of wireline or coil tubing tools. The apparatus may also be reset many times whilst remaining in a downhole position and is therefore less time consuming and less expensive to use than the prior art.

    摘要: The invention provides a hydraulic anchor packer for use in a well bore comprising an inflatable packer element (36) incorporating a cylinder (38) and an elastomer sleeve (44) provided on the exterior surface thereof. The elastomer sleeve (44) is retained by retaining means adjacent the cylinder (38) at the end portions of the sleeve (44) but free of the cylinder (38) intermediate the end portions. An aperture (48) is defined by the wall of the cylinder (38) for connecting the exterior of the cylinder (38) in a region where the elastomer sleeve (44) is free thereof to the interior of the cylinder (38). The anchor packer further comprises means (60, 62) for causing fluid from within the cylinder (38) to flow through the aperture (48) and between the elastomer sleeve (44) and exterior surface of the cylinder (38). The means (60, 62) is thereby adapted to radially expand the elastomer sleeve (44). Means (56) is further provided for trapping fluid which has flowed into the chamber between the elastomer sleeve (44) and the cylinder (38) to prevent relaxation of the elastomer sleeve (44). The invention has the advantage over the prior art of providing a hydraulic anchor packer which is simple and inexpensive to manufacture and use, and which is suitable for use in both cased and uncased well bores.

    摘要: The invention relates to well bore deflector tools which are used primarily for deflecting tools, lining and the like through a window which has been milled in the side of a well bore casing. A deflector tool (1) is provided with a deflector face (3) at the upper end thereof and means (9, 10) for selectively gripping and releasing a tie back receptacle (8) and/or a well bore casing (6) at a location below the deflector face (3). The gripping means (9, 10) is operable for gripping in response to engagement of the deflector tool (1) with a tie back receptacle (8). Accordingly, the invention provides a simple and automatic means for locking the deflector tool in a required angular position.

    摘要: The polycrystalline cubic boron nitride cutting tool has a particle size in the range of from 10-17 microns. In addition to CBN, the tool has from 2%-15% by weight of a refractory compound selected from the group consisting of titanium carbonitride, titanium aluminum carbonitride, titanium carbide, titanium nitride, titanium diboride and aluminum diboride. When using one of the carbonitrides, the carbon to nitrogen proportion is preferably in the range of from 30 atomic percent carbon and 70 atomic percent nitrogen, to 70 atomic percent carbon and 30 atomic percent nitrogen, and preferably is about 50/50. In addition, there is an infiltrant containing aluminum and/or silicon. A quantity of diamond crystals more than stoichiometric with the amount of silicon infiltrated is included in the composition for forming silicon carbide. The cutting tool is not formed on a cemented tungsten carbide substrate so is substantially free of cobalt.

    摘要: The present invention relates to safety joints which permit separation of a downhole assembly at the location of the joint. The invention provides a safety joint characterised by the provision of auxiliary interconnecting means on a body (2) for interconnecting said body (2) to an auxiliary shaft after removal of a main shaft (3) from said body (2). Axial loading between the auxiliary shaft and said body (2) may be thereby transferred. Furthermore, torque may also be transferred between the auxiliary shaft and said body (2) in a direction opposite to that in which torque may be transferred from the main shaft (3) to said body (2). Thus, the present invention allows a length of downhole assembly located above said body (2) to be removed from a wellbore by rotation of said length of assembly in a first direction and then allows rotation of said body (2) in the same first direction by means of the auxiliary shaft in an attempt to remove a length of assembly stuck in the wellbore downhole of said body (2).

    摘要: A polycrystalline cubic boron nitride cutting tool is from 50 to 85% by weight cubic boron nitride crystals bonded together as a polycrystalline mass. A supporting phase commingled with the polycrystalline cubic boron nitride is made from 15 to 40% by weight of a refractory material which is preferably titanium carbonitride or titanium aluminum carbonitride. The starting composition also comprises from 4 to 10% by weight of Co2Al9. Mixed powders of these ingredients are treated in ammonia at a temperature in the range of from 1000 DEG to 1250 DEG C., which significantly increases the nitrogen content and reduces carbon content of titanium carbonitride. Instead of mixed powders of the starting materials, coated particles may be used such as cubic boron nitride coated with titanium carbonitride, or titanium carbonitride coated with cobalt, aluminum or cobalt aluminide. Hexagonal boron nitride may be substituted as a starting material for a portion of the cubic boron nitride.
