摘要:
In a process for coding a plurality of audio signals, the left and right-hand basic channels and the central channel are formed into a jointly coded signal by joint stereo coding which is decoded to provide simulated decoded signals. The simulated decoded signals and two surround channels are formed by matrixing by means of a compatibility matrix into compatible signals which are suitable for decoding using existing decoders. To prevent audible interference on account of the high energy contents of the compatible signals which would occur if joint stereo coding and decoding were first performed before matrixing, the compatible signals or the simulated decoded signals dynamically weighted by means of a dynamic correction factor in such a way that the energy of the compatible signals approaches that of signals which would be obtained by the direct matrixing of the two basic channels and the central and surround channels.

Described is a method of detecting errors and perceptible interference in the transmission of frequency-coded digital signals, in particular audio signals transmitted as data blocks from a transmitter to a receiver. The invention is characterized in that a decision function is generated from the frequency coefficients of past or, optionally, future blocks, and the occurrence of an error is determined by means of this decision function, frequency coefficients with an error not being used in the evaluation of subsequent blocks.

A data compression process is disclosed for the storage and/or transmission of digital audio signals. Known processes, such as ASPEC, allow high quality music to be transmitted in a data stream that contains less than 10 % of the information contained in the data stream used in a CD. Known compression processes do not measure up, however, to the requirements of the professional studio technology, as the subsequent processing of the audio signals that takes place in the studio leads to audible disturbances. The disclosed process is insensitive to subsequent processing, such as tandem coding, mixing or fading. To achieve this insensitivity, the transposition of the audio signal from the time domain to the frequency domain is carried out with perfect reconstruction by means of a filter bank, the psychoacoustic masking effect is utilised to an essentially less extent, and a cascade multidimensional Huffman code is used for coding variable word lengths. This process allows audio signals destined to be used in studio technology to be transmitted at a data rate of 192 kbit/sec per channel.

An encoder for providing an audio stream on the basis of a transform-domain representation of an input audio signal comprises a quantization error calculator configured to determine a multi-band quantization error over a plurality of frequency bands of the input audio signal for which separate band gain information is available. The encoder also comprises an audio stream provider configured to provide the audio stream such that the audio stream comprises an information describing an audio content of the frequency bands and an information describing the multi-band quantization error. A decoder for providing a decoded representation of an audio signal on the basis of an encoded audio stream representing spectral components of frequency bands of the audio signal comprises a noise filler configured to introduce noise into spectral components of a plurality of frequency bands to which separate frequency band gain information is associated on the basis of a common multi-band noise intensity value.
