A multiple ratio automatic transmission control system for an automotive vehicle comprising a multiple ratio gear set and a simple planetary gear set arranged in series. The control system has multiple control modes including an automatic control mode in which upshifts and downshifts between adjacent ratios are achieved by engaging and releasing friction clutches and brakes in the simple planetary gear set and in the multiple ratio gear set and wherein a manual shift control mode includes a select-shift control. Engine braking is available in each gear for both operating modes. In the select-shift manual control mode, a particular gear can be chosen by the operator for continuous single ratio operation. The control system includes variable force solenoids that are multiplexed in combination with pressure modulator valves for achieving each operating mode.

The automatic transmission control system comprising two mode that are a mode at the time the automatic speed control system is controlling the vehicle velocity and a mode at the time the automatic speed control system is not controlling the vehicle velocity, and the automatic transmission control system delay the change of the mode at the shfting of the speed stage. The automatic transmission control system prohivit the shift of the speed stage to fixed speed stage at the time the automatic speed control system is controlling the vehicle velocity. The automatic speed control system does not execute the judgement of the shift of the speed stage at the time that the automatic speed control system is controlling the throttle valve at shifting of the speed stage. The automatic speed control system is controls a throttle valve according to the abnormal state of the transmission.

Procede de selection automatique de vitesse dans une transmission de puissance pour vehicule automobile, cette selection etant executee par un systeme de commande comprenant une unite electronique (1) qui, en reponse a des signaux representant la vitesse du vehicule et la charge du moteur, agit de concert avec une memoire morte programmable PROM (28), dans laquelle sont stockees, pour chaque position de vitesse des limites alternatives de vitesse pour le changement dans des vitesses avoisinantes ainsi que des valeurs limites relatives a la variation de vitesse et a la charge du moteur permettant une selection entre ces limites de vitesse alternatives. Afin d'eliminer le risque de selection d'une vitesse mal adaptee a des vehicules lourds, par exemple en combinaison aux changements de vitesse sur une colline, l'invention se caracterise essentiellement en ce que pendant le voyage, des donnees relatives a la variation de vitesse et a la charge du moteur sont stockees dans une memoire a acces selectif RAM (29), que la valeur de vitesse la plus recente stockee dans la memoire RAM avant le commencement de la selection de vitesse est confrontee, de meme que les valeurs stockees dans la memoire RAM et relatives a la variation de vitesse et a la charge du moteur a un moment donne avant le commencement de la variation de vitesse, avec les valeurs stockees dans la memoire PROM relative a la vitesse, la variation de vitesse et la charge du moteur, respectivement; que cette comparaison se traduit par le choix d'une vitesse determinee; que l'unite electronique (1) produit un signal de sortie representant la vitesse selectionnee; et que ce signal de sortie est envoye a un dispositif d'actionnement servant a indiquer et/ou faire passer la vitesse selectionnee.

The control apparatus further includes an acceleration/deceleration calculating unit for calculating an acceleration or deceleration from the degree of increase or decrease in vehicle speed per unit time, a deceleration shift characteristic for deciding a gear position according to the deceleration and the vehicle speed, and a brake detecting unit for detecting a brake operation. When the road surface slope is determined to be a downhill slope by the slope detecting unit and the brake operation is detected by the brake detecting unit, the selected shift map (46) is changed to the deceleration shift characteristic and the gear position is decided according to the deceleration shift characteristic.

Es wird vorgeschlagen, dass die Steuerung (40) betreibbar ist, die Übersetzungsstufe des Getriebes (66) selbsttätig auszuwählen.
