The present invention provides a network based time-shifting architecture where broadcast content is replicated and delivered toward subscribers at different times in different content streams. In operation, a content source delivers unshifted content over a network to a media server, which replicates the unshifted content to provide multiple content blocks. Each content block represents a time-shifted content block of the unshifted content, and as such each time-shifted content block will have essentially the same content. At different times, each time-shifted content block is delivered over a transmission network toward the same or different subscribers. In one embodiment, the time-shifted content blocks are delivered directly or through an encryption function to a multicast server, which controls delivery of the different time-shifted content blocks to television clients of the subscribers.

The present disclosure relates to displaying full scale images with overlaid similar scaled images and a graphical user device in a display of a client device. The client device receives video streams of the full scale images and scaled images. The video streams are broadcast independent of one another, and a user of the client device may manipulate the format of the images of either or both streams, and/or place the scaled image on any portion of the full scaled image. The graphical user interface is placed so it does not obscure the scaled image. Alternatively a single video stream may be received by the client device. When a single video stream is received, the client device creates two video streams, one stream comprising full scale images and the other stream comprising scaled images. The full scale image is overlaid with the scaled image and the graphical user interface.

A method and system for implementing synchronization between a receiving end and a source end of broadcast television service. The method includes: determining, at a transmitting station, time difference information between the source end and the transmitting station; and transmitting, by the transmitting station, time information of the transmitting station and the time difference information to the receiving end; implementing, by the receiving end, synchronization between the receiving end and the source end according to the time difference information and the time information of the transmitting station. With the method, synchronization between the source end and the receiving end in a broadcast television service network may be realized so that the receiving end may learn the accurate initial time information for receiving program streams transmitted from the program source. With the method, energy waste due to in-advance turn-on of receiving end device for receiving a program may be avoided.

A user control appratus, such as a remote controller; is utilised by a viewer to choose user control commands and transmit signals in respoinse to the data processor which receives the signals in response to user control commands. A television receiver is used tio display the television programs and televiision program schedule inforamtion. A video display generator receives video control commands from the data processor and program schedule inforamtion from the memory and displays a portion of the program schedule information in overlaying relationship with a television program appearing on a televisiion channel in at least one mode of operation of the television programming guide. The data processor controls the video display generator with video control commands, issued in response to the user control commands, to display program schedule information for any chosen one of the pluarlity of television programs in overlaying relationship with at least one television program then appearing on any other chosen one of te plurality of channels on the television receiver.
