The present invention provides a method and apparatus for interfacing different service creation environments (SCEs) and execution environments (EEs) in a telecommunication system. A telecommunication system interface in accordance with the present invention includes at least one (SCE) to be interfaced to a plurality of service (EEs); a parser (50) for parsing output code from the (SCE) to form a parse tree representing a telecommunication service developed in the (SCE); an intermediate code generator for generating an intermediate code representing nodes of the parse tree such that the intermediate code preserves substantially all the information contained within the (SCE) output code; and a target code generator (52) for generating a target code for each of the (EEs) from the intermediate code, such that the telecommunication service developed in the (SCE) may be provided in each of the (EEs).

The network arrangement in which a call, which here may relate to e.g. speech, data, video transmission, etc., is to be set up between an originating point and at least one terminating point which are virtually represented by circuits, comprises a number of switches which are virtually represented by path objects and the communication path comprises a call part and a connection part. The connection part comprises a number of connection objects (2a) each comprising a number of path objects particularly virtually representing switches (6a) which are arranged in an object oriented hierarchical structure. At least a number of the path objects each comprise a base path object (3a) and a subpath object (4a) which are hierarchically arranged in a super class and a subclass, respectively. A base path object can be used by a connection object independently of the corresponding subpath object. The behaviour of the subpath object is given by the particular routing case.

The invention relates to a telecommunication system provided with resources and with software which controls the individual resources and also the manner in which the resources cooperate mutually at a system level. In accordance with the invention, the software is divided into two parts. The first part, called object logic (24), comprises a number of object units (30-35), each of which represents an individual type of resource (22, 16, 27, 18, 13). Further, each object unit includes operations for controlling its individual resource. An individual type of resource may be used for a number of different purposes. The second part, called control logic (23), includes a number of control cases (46). Each control case, in turn, combines a number of object units in a superordinate fashion, to control the mutual cooperation of corresponding resources irrespective of the manner in which an individual object unit is intended to influence its resource. A control case includes a number of control stages, each of which has only one input, at least a first operation, called control stage operation, and at least one output. The control stages of a control case are mutually connected by links, each of which is designed to connect an output of a preceding control stage with the input of a following control stage. The points at which links are connected to the control stages are called potential connection points to which additional control cases, called control case features, can be connected to the control case in which the control stages are present, called the basic control case, for modification of the basic control case.

Die Datenbearbeitungseinheiten (PU1, PU2) greifen hierfür über eine Kopplung ihrer Datenbanken (DBMS1, DBMS2) aufeinander zu. Mittels dieser Kopplung werden Daten der anderen Datenbearbeitungseinheit (PU1, PU2) entsprechend des Datenmodells der jeweiligen eigenen Datenbank (DBMS1, DBMS2) sichtbar gemacht. Die Datenbanken (DBMS1, DBMS2) werden hierbei mittels eines Replikationsmechanismuses verkoppelt, der zwischen ihren Datenbankverwaltern (DBM1, DBM2) abläuft. A telecommunication exchange simulator adapted to evaluate the operational parameters (GET, DIM, PRF) of one or more telecommunication exchanges in their environment and in function of sequences of connection handling events (CHE) arranged in connection handling scenarios (CHS). The scenarios are updated by the processing execution times (PET) of the events and by the parameters (OSP) of the operating system that are separately applied to the simulator. As a result, the simulator is easy to handle and to supervise and simulation of complex scenarios and of different types of exchanges is possible with a minimum of changes. Moreover, most any type of exchange can be tested in its own environment owing to a dynamic analyser (DA) to which telecommunication load specifications (LSP) are also applied and which has a flexible object oriented structure. To even more facilitate the supervision of the exchange, the scenarios, times and parameters are in the form of sequence charts modifiable by means of a graphical editor.

When developing development systems, one seeks to design software systems as modular as possible for controlling the communications system. This is also the aim in the case of a call processing system for controlling connections in a communications system. The basic structure of the disclosed call processing system has a signalling interface system and a call control system. Both systems are limited to the logical connection control and present their independent connection requests to a resource control system which carries out the physical connection control. The call processing system further has a coordination system for coordinating the so-called independent connection requests to the resource control system.

A switching control system is disclosed which represents an autonomous system for controlling connections on the physical plane and which allows the user systems to formulate their connection requests in an independent manner from the hardware architecture of the communications system.
