Systems and methods for evaluating a piping system for an improperly assembled fluid tight connection. Provided is a preferred joint assembly unable to hold fluid pressure in either one of a dry fit connection and partial seal connection. The joint assembly includes a coupler to identify a leak. More specifically, the coupler includes a substantially tubular wall portion having an outer surface, an inner surface and a channel disposed along one of the inner and outer surfaces. The channel has a first configuration for carrying a fluid between an interior of the piping system and an exterior of a piping system, and a second configuration to prevent fluid from being carried between the interior and the exterior of the piping system. The channel is further preferably convertible from the first configuration to the second configuration in the presence of a minimum amount of sealant material.

A metering device contains a rotor which defines elongate chamber, there being a shuttle contained within the chamber movable between two terminal end positions. Frusto conical surfaces defined on the rotor co-operate with annular members defining correspondings seats. One passage extends from one end of the chamber to one frusto conical surface, and another passage extends from the other end of the chamber to the other frusto conical surface. Each annual element defines a respective inlet and outlet for fluid and a shuttle is present within the chamber. As the rotor rotates, the shuttle effects a shuttling movement thus measuring dispensed volumes of fluid. A sensor is provided to detect physical contact of the shuttle with the end of the chamber to cause the rotor to advance.

An ambulatory pump is disclosed for medical use. This includes a pressurised supply of a fluid for medical use and a metering device. The metering device has a rotor containing an oscillating free piston operating in a bore at right angles to the rotor axis. The piston is driven by the fluid to be metered. The rotor is retained within a stator having inlet and outlet ports. When the rotor is rotated, a first end of the bore becomes in fluid connection with the inlet port and the piston is operated upon the pressurized fluid and moves within the bore in a first direction towards the inlet port. As the rotor is turned further, the second end of the bore becomes in fluid connection with the inlet port whilst the first end is made in fluid connection with the outlet port, and the piston reverses to move in a second direction, i.e. towards the outlet port to discharge the fluid which had previously moved the piston in a first direction. The rotor may be turned back and forth to dispense metered doses of the fluid, or may be rotated continuously or intermittently in the same direction to dispense metered doses of the fluid. Other devices using such a metering device are also disclosed.

The invention pertains to a combination of a container (3) for liquid and a device (1) for dispensing metered quantities of liquid therefrom, the container being movable from a storage position to a dispensing position at which liquid is deliverable from the container by gravity flow, characterized in that the dispensing device comprises a valve (4) engaged in the delivery opening (2) of the container and capable of controlling the flow of liquid therefrom, and a metering bottle (6) engageable in the delivery opening and movable from a first position at which the bottle is capable of receiving liquid from the container, to a second position at which the bottle is disengageable from the delivery opening, the bottle having a shape such that in the first position an air pocket is retained inside it, which is displaced by liquid and transferred to a position adjacent to the valve by movement of the bottle to the second position. The container/dispenser combination allows dosing of metered quantities of liquid without any risk of dripping or leaking.
