A driving internal device (2) is fitted to a printed circuit board (1), and a rotary shaft (6) comprising a hollow shaft is supported by shaft support portions (4, 5) of this driving internal device (2). A pointer (9) is fitted to this rotary shaft (6) and is rotated by the driving internal device (2) through the rotary shaft (6). A light emission diode (12) is disposed inside the rotary shaft (6) and is fixed to the printed circuit board (1). Rays of light of the light emission diode (12) are received by a light reception surface (9a) of the pointer (9) and are then reflected by a reflection surface (9b), so that the pointer (9) emits the rays of light.

A moveable pointer (15) on an indicator (11) is illuminated by use of at least one electroluminescent strip (21) which is mounted separately from the pointer (15). The pointer (15) is able to conduct light internally in such a way that light transmitted to one portion (23) of the pointer (15) illuminates another portion of the pointer (25). The electroluminescent strip (21) forms a light source for the pointer (15) so that the strip (21) may be mounted adjacent the pointer's hub (23) in order to provide the necessary illumination. This arrangement permits an indicator (11) to be illuminated with electroluminescent lighting in order that passive vision aids, such as night vision goggles, may be used, while providing sufficient illumination for the indicator's dial pointer (15).

To adjust the relative positions of two elements mounted for guided sliding relative motion in a first direction and in a contact plane thereof, an adjusting tool (31) is fitted into a reference bore (32) in one element and rotationally and non-slippably engaging an edge of the other element. A manually operable button (36) on the tool may be depressed to remove a cam (42) permitting adjustment rotation of the tool, or released to secure the tool in the bore while means (16) are operated to clamp the two elements, and the tool can then be removed. Substantially one-handed adjustment is thus possible leaving an operator's other hand free to operate other apparatus.
