A method and apparatus for transporting data for a data warehouse application is described. The data from an operational data store (the source database) is organized in non-overlapping data partitions. Separate execution threads read the data from the operational data store concurrently. This is followed by concurrent transformation of the data in multiple execution threads. Finally, the data is loaded into the target data warehouse concurrently using multiple execution threads. By using multiple execution threads, the data contention is reduced. Thereby the apparatus and method of the present invention achieves increased throughput.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren, eine Vorrichtung und ein Testkit zur Durchführung dieses Verfahrens zur Bestimmung des Volumens einer Probe einer Flüssigkeit (A). Bei dem Verfahren wird - zum Anfärben der Flüssigkeit (A) - eine bestimmte Konzentration eines chromophoren Indikators in dieser Flüssigkeit (A) erstellt, eine Probe von der Flüssigkeit (A) abgetrennt, die optische Absorption der abgetrennten Probe gemessen und das Volumen der abgetrennten Probe durch Korrelation der gemessenen optischen Absorption mit der Konzentration des Indikators in dieser Flüssigkeit (A) bestimmt. Das Verfahren ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass als Indikator zum Anfärben der Flüssigkeit (A) Ionen verwendet werden, welche durch Komplexierung mit einem spezifischen Liganden die Färbung der Probe erzeugen.

The present invention is intended to provide a method and apparatus with which, when ejecting or applying a very small amount of liquid, the liquid can be applied in a desired form at a high speed and precisely without depending on viscosity of the liquid. In a fixed-amount-of-liquid ejecting method according to the present invention, for ejecting a liquid in fixed amount from a liquid reservoir through an ejection valve, the method comprises a step of applying a pressure to the liquid beforehand prior to starting ejection of the liquid and/or holding a pressure near an ejection orifice after the end of liquid ejection at a predetermined specific value so that an ejection rate of the liquid through the ejection orifice is kept constant. Other features are that a liquid temperature is controlled, and/or that the liquid is automatically filled without entrapment of bubbles. A fixed-amount-of-liquid ejecting apparatus according to the present invention comprises a liquid reservoir, means for pressurizing a liquid in the liquid reservoir, and an ejection valve communicating with the liquid reservoir, thereby ejecting the liquid in fixed amount from the liquid reservoir through the ejection valve. The apparatus further comprises operation control means for controlling operations of the pressurizing means and the ejection valve, and ejection pressure control means for automatically regulating an ejection pressure of the liquid. The apparatus is further featured by including liquid temperature control means and/or a filling apparatus for automatically filling the liquid in the liquid reservoir without entrapment of bubbles.

The invention relates especially to a method according to which in a first step the liquid volume V1a present in a vessel is determined by means of a detection device, after which a liquid volume V1ist is taken up by a pipette and the liquid volume V1e contained in the vessel is again determined. Thereafter the liquid volume V1ist actually taken up is calculated using the equation V1a - V1e = V1ist. Method and apparatus for volume measurement and body composition estimation provides an accurate, non-invasive estimation of the body volume and body composition of an object or body such as a human being. The present invention provides a first chamber (2) with a door (9) or closable means of entry through which an object or a subject may enter, along with a second chamber (3) and means (18) to cyclically perturb the volumes of the two chambers in a precisely complementary fashion. The present invention also measures the pressure in each of the chambers, controls in real time the volume perturbation and analyzes the pressure records so as to yield volume and body composition estimations.
