摘要:
A patient/nurse communication method (10) for a hospital includes patient stations (18) capable of generating hospital calls and a remote master station (32) which prioritizes and stores the calls. Hall units (28) outside patient rooms (14) identify the rooms (14) from which the calls originate and the type of call. Each patient station (18) allows selective retrieval and display of unanswered calls, and the system (10) further permits audio interconnection between any two of the stations (18, 32). Nurse-worn badges (26) transmit pulse-coded infrared signals which are received by receivers (121) at the patient stations (18) and in response, the system (10) generates identity and location signals which are stored at the master station (32). The nurse location and identity information may also be retrieved and displayed at any patient station (18). Receipt of a nurse's (11) infrared signal at a room station (18) automatically cancels a patient call origination from the room (14) and display thereof by the respective hall unit (28), while actuating a display (122) to indicate nurse (11) presence. By using the nurse call button (22), the patient can establish telephonic communications between the patient station (18) and a wireless telephone (64) being carried by a remotely located nurse.

A patient-support apparatus (20) includes a base (22), a patient support (26) on the base (22), an overhead arm (38) located over the patient support (26), and a mounting assembly for attaching the overhead arm (38) to the base (22). The mounting assembly includes an alignment mechanism (126) to properly align the overhead arm (38) with respect to the base (22). The alignment mechanism (126) provides for initial adjustment of the overhead arm (38) relative to the base (22) with respect to at least three different degrees of freedom and for subsequent rigidity of the overhead arm (38) relative to the base (22) after alignment.

A dump valve (74) is provided for selectively inflating and deflating an air cushion (40) on a bed (10). The dump valve comprises an elongated housing (78) having an interior region (80) extending along a longitudinal axis (110) and is mounted to a bed deck (18) so the axis is angled relative to the deck. A connector (90) is coupled to a first end (114) of the housing to couple the housing to an air supply. A piston (88) in the interior region can slide between first and second postitions. The first position permits air to pass from the air supply, into the interior region, and through a central opening (104) to inflate the air cushion. The second position blocks air flow from the air supply into the housing and permits air to pass from the cushion, through the central opening, and through an open second end (116) of the housing to deflate the cushion.

A light fixture apparatus (10) is configured to be mounted to a wall (46). The apparatus (10) includes support frame (34) configured to be mounted to the wall (46). The support frame (34) is formed to include a track (26). The support frame (34) also includes first and second support walls (40, 42) which are configured to be mounted generally parallel to the wall (46) of the room and a web (44) interconnecting the first and second support walls (40, 42). A light box (12) is coupled to the support frame (34). The light box (12) includes a light source (22). The apparatus (10) further includes a mounting block (102) configured to be coupled to the track (26) of the support. The mounting block (102) is adapted to receive an accessory item (28) to couple the accessory item (28) to the support frame (34).

A foot section for a birthing bed has a central panel (25) and two lateral plates (30, 30) that function, in an inclined attitude, as footrests and in a vertical attitude as posts for receiving calf supports (29). The calf supports (29) are stored in holsters (42) on the underside of the footrests. The mattress (21) is in three sections, with the outboard sections (31, 31) being hinged to a central section (26) so as to be swung upwardly upon the central section (26) thereby exposing the footrests without having to remove the whole foot section. The central panel (25) can be removed with the mattress and is adapted to be stood on its end for temporary storage, thereby conserving floor space.

A patient warming apparatus (10) comprises a patient support (12), a canopy (24) positioned above the patient support (12), the canopy (24) being movable upwardly and downwardly relative to the patient support (12), a first heater (56) coupled to the canopy (24) to move upwardly and downwardly therewith, the first heater (56) being operable to direct infrared radiation toward the patient support (12), and a second heater (76) coupled to the patient support (12), the second heater (76) being operable to heat air, and a controller (200) for controlling the output power levels of the first and second heaters (56, 76).

A bed (50) for a person is provided, the bed (50) having a head (52), a foot (54), and sides (56, 58). The bed (50) includes a frame (62, 300) and a deck (400) carried by the frame (62, 300). The deck (400) includes an upper deck portion (414) and a central, longitudinal recess (456) in the upper deck portion (414), the recess (456) being defined by a lower deck portion (430) and walls (438) connecting the upper and lower deck portions (414, 430). In addition, the bed (50) includes a mattress (550) having a planar, upwardly-facing patient surface (552), side portions (580) resting on the side deck portions, and a central projection (576) extending downwardly into the recess (456). The bed (50) also includes a first longitudinal deck section (404) coupled to the deck (400) to pivot about a pivot axis above the lower deck portion (430) between a generally horizontal position and a tilted position.

A stretcher includes a first actuator coupled to a head section and a second actuator coupled to a thigh section. A set of buttons accessible to a patient carried by the stretcher are coupled to motors that drive the respective first and second actuators. The buttons are pressed to move the thigh section through a full range of motion and to move the head section through a limited range of motion. A switch inaccessible to the patient is pressed to move the head section through a full range of motion. Lockout switches are provided for disabling the buttons and the switch. A first hand crank is coupled to the first actuator and is manually rotated to move the head section through the full range of motion. A second hand crank is coupled to the second actuator and is manually rotated to move the thigh section through the full range of motion. A CPR release handle is provided for quickly lowering the head section to the lowered position without the use of the buttons, switch, or first hand crank.

An apparatus for controlling the pressure of fluid within a chamber upon which a person rests includes a manifold (40) having a wall defining an interior region (54) in fluid communication with a source of pressurized fluid (60) and an air sack (70) defining the chamber. The air sack (70) includes a wall defining an interior region (80, 82, 84, 86) of the air sack (70). The wall is formed to include an air loss opening (140) in fluid communication with the interior region (80, 82, 84, 86) of the air sack (70). The apparatus also includes a flow control assembly (88, 90, 92, 94) having a conduit (136) in fluid communication with the interior region (80, 82, 84, 86) of the air sack (70) and with the interior region (54) of the manifold (40). The flow control assembly (88, 90, 92, 94) also includes a check valve (130) mounted in the conduit (136) to prevent the flow of pressurized fluid through the conduit (136) from the interior region (80, 82, 84, 86) of the air sack (70) to the interior region (54) of the manifold (40).
