In some embodiments, an eye treatment device is disclosed, which includes a scleral shield positionable proximate an inner surface of an eyelid, the scleral shield being made of, or coated with, an energy-absorbing material activated by a light energy, and an energy transducer positionable outside of the eyelid, the energy transducer configured to provide light energy at one or more wavelengths, including a first wavelength selected to heat the energy-absorbing material. Wherein, when the eyelid is positioned between the energy transducer and the scleral shield, the light energy from the energy transducer and the heated energy-absorbing material of the scleral shield conductively heats a target tissue region sufficiently to melt meibum within meibomian glands located within or adjacent to the target tissue region.

The yarns for constructing the therapeutic garment are selected from a yarn that absorbs, stores, and releases heat energy through a phase change, yarns that convert heat energy and ultra violet radiation energy into far infrared radiation energy and radiate the far infrared radiation energy to other yarns and to a wearer's body part, a yarn that adsorbs moisture from the wearer's body part and/or ambient environment and generates heat energy through an exothermic reaction, a heat insulting and hydrophobic yarn, and a heat conductive yarn that maintains a uniform temperature within the yarns. The yarns of the therapeutic garment are bundled and knitted to create a uniform surface area distribution of the yarns that contact each other and cover the wearer's body part.

The present invention relates to a life cradle device for the purpose of inducing therapeutic hypothermia in neonates suffering from birth asphyxia. The device essentially consists of a rigid outer skeleton which could be fitted with removable mattresses containing form stable organic phase change materials effecting instant and sustained cooling. Multiple compartments of different phase change material composition functional at different temperatures are arranged in layers to replicate cooling performances as in conventional cascading systems. The device is also designed to have thermo-chromic indicators with an option of probes for automation control techniques. The device may also be fitted with thermostat controlled infant radiant warmer to automatically switch on when the infant is cooled down below requirement as a safety consideration.

The aim of the invention is to provide medical or sanitary items or devices made from films of polymer/ceramic composite material, which can be used to increase the effectiveness and extend the spectrum of activity of FIR in the prevention and treatment of sanitary and physiological disorders, in the improvement of the physical and/or mental performances of an individual, or in cosmetic treatments. To this end, the invention concerns a multilayer intended to be applied to the body of a living individual in order to transmit and/or return to said body at least one far infrared radiation beam. This multilayer comprises at least two superimposed layers each formed from a composite material consisting of a polymer matrix in which ceramic particles likely to transmit or return at least one far infrared radiation beam are dispersed, at least a portion of these particles preferably being particles made from MnO 2 and particles made from Co 2 O 3 . The invention also concerns a patch and other items comprising the abovementioned multilayer, the methods for producing same and the medical or cosmetic applications thereof.
