An exemplary coated article comprises a body with surface coating of inorganic particles reactive with hydroxide generated from hydration of concrete or mortar to form hydration products. The articles are designed to be used with cast concrete or masonry. The inorganic particles comprise at least one of (a) aluminum oxide trihydrate; (b) silica dioxide; (c) fly ash; (d) blast furnace slag, (e) silica fume; (f) an alkali or alkaline earth metal salts; or mixture thereof. The particles improve bonding with hydratable cementitious compositions that are cast against the coated surface and allowed to set.

A mobile system and process for manufacturing cement additives and/or concrete admixture products comprise tanks (14, 16, 18, 20, 22) each containing a different raw material. Pumps (24, 26, 28, 30, 32) operate to transfer the raw materials into a blender (50) to produce a cement additive or concrete admixture for dispensing at the destination site. The frame (12) can be placed upon or attached to wheels, as in a truck or trailer frame, and the tanks may also be placed on or secured to the truck or trailer frame. A preferred skid-mounted system (10) comprises pumps (24), valves (34), meters (104), and a computer processor unit (70) which can control the equipment and permit adjustments to be made at the destination site. Tanks of raw materials may be transported to a destination site together with or separately from the frame-mounted equipment, and finished products can be blended and adjusted on site by computer-controlled operation in response to input parameters such as the quality of limestone, cement, aggregates, water, and also in response to desired product blends, performance features, etc.

Exemplary fibers of the invention, useful for reinforcing hydratable cementitious materials such as concrete and mortar, have three-dimensional twist curvatures. Preferably, the fibers are flat or flattened and have first and second opposed flat or flattened ends that are twisted out of phase, and which preferably define therebetween an intermediate elongate fiber body having a curvature in more than one direction. Processes of the invention comprise forming a fiber with a three-dimensional twisted shape by twisting at least two fibers together to form a twisted fiber bundle to impart a twist curvature into the fiber material. The twisted fiber bundle can then be cut into separate fibers or stored on bobbins for shipment to another location for cutting. Advantages of the invention include enhanced dispersibility of the fibers in hydratable cementitious compositions.

The present invention relates to a novel loose aggregate catalyst support composition characterized in that the aggregate has a surface area from about 100-1000m2/g, an average particle size of from about 5-250 microns, a pore volume of from about 0.5 to 3.0 cc/g in pores having pore diameters under 1000 Angstroms, and preferably having an AQI hardness of greater than 10, and wherein the aggregate particles comprise the following components: 1) porous solid particles from organic, inorganic oxide materials and mixtures thereof, sais particles having an average particle size of less than 30 microns; and 2) a binder to loosely bind the particles from 1) together. In another embodiment, the catalytic support material of the present invention is combined with chromium compounds, Ziegler-Natta and Metallocene, or Ni based complexes, Pd based complexes catalytic materials resulting in catalytically active compositions when appropriately activated. Further disclosed are methods for making the support and catalysts and methods for using these compositions.

Efflorescence is controlled by incorporation of a polymer comprising a polyacrylic acid or salt or derivative thereof having an average molecular weight in the range of 500-49,000, and more preferably in the average molecular weight range of 1,000 to 10,000.
