    摘要: A arc discharge headlamp system (10) is disclosed. An arc discharge headlamp system (10) may be formed with a lamp housing (22) including an enclosed reflector (24), a double ended arc discharge lamp (16) having a two leads at offset ends, enclosed in the reflector. A first lamp support (18) for the front end of the lamp is coupled to the lamp housing, and a first lead connection (38) for the lamp is coupled through a high potential conductor (28) embedded in the lamp housing (22). The high potential conductor (28) embedded in the lamp housing extends subsurface to a ballast cavity (30) formed in the lamp housing and enclosing a ballast (34). The ballast (34) is potted in the cavity (30) to protect it. A second lamp lead (42) extends through a second lamp support (20) to the rear of the lamp housing to be connected to the ballast (34). The lamp capsule, high potential leads, and ballast are all securely enclosed as a single unit with potential leakage between elements, and with the outside prevented.

    摘要: A metal halide arc discharge lamp comprises an arc tube containing a chemical fill including mercury and metal halides and having first and second electrodes respectively sealed at opposite ends thereof. An outer envelope surrounds the arc tube and has first and second terminals for electrical connection thereto. A source of ultraviolet radiation is provided within the outer envelope proximate the arc tube for producing radiation which illuminates the path between the electrodes of the arc tube to decrease the amount of time for generating a gaseous discharge therebetween. The ultraviolet light source includes an envelope of ultraviolet light transmitting material containing a fill material and having a single electrode sealed in one end thereof. The single electrode is electrically coupled to one electrode of the arc tube. A portion of the envelope of the ultraviolet light source is capacitively coupled to the other electrode of the arc tube such that the source produces ultraviolet radiation during lamp starting when the first and second terminals of the lamp are energized.

    摘要: An improved fluorescent lamp (1) is disclosed. The lamp of the present invention includes an envelope (2) containing an ionizable medium including mercury and having electrodes (3) located within the envelope; an aluminum oxide reflector layer on the inner surface of the envelope, and a phosphor layer (4) disposed on the reflector layer. The aluminum oxide reflector layer comprises particles of high purity aluminum oxide having an average particle size greater than 0.5 micrometer and less than or equal to about 1 micrometer and having a surface area of about 4 to 6 meter²/gram. The aluminum oxide reflector layer preferably includes at least 95 weight percent alpha-alumina. Preferred coating weights for the reflector layer are from about 8.8 to about 11.1 milligrams/square centimeter.
