Said aim is achieved by the fact that the atmospheric pressure and/or a noise signal is/are detected during a predefined interval or predefined intervals at least at one point of the vehicle (10) while the position of the object (12) or objects (12) relative to the vehicle (10) is determined by evaluating the signal curve/s of the atmospheric pressure and/or the noise signal, allowing objects (12) which are located within the blind spot to be detected in a safe and inexpensive manner particularly at high driving speeds exceeding 30 km/h.
