The surgical instrument may include a fastener deployment system with a locking member. The articulation control may block movement of the locking member when the articulation control is located in the first position. The articulation control may also permit movement of the locking member when the articulation control is located in the second position.

    摘要: A low-profile access port for subcutaneous implantation within the body of a patient is disclosed. The access port includes a receiving cup that provides a relatively large subcutaneous target to enable a catheter-bearing needle to access the port without difficulty. In addition, the access port includes a valve/seal assembly to permit pressurized fluid injection through the port while preventing backflow. In one embodiment, therefore, a low- profile access port comprises a body including a conduit with an inlet port at a proximal end thereof, and a receiving cup. The receiving cup is concavely shaped to direct a catheter- bearing needle into the conduit via the inlet port. The receiving cup is oriented substantially toward a skin surface when subcutaneously implanted within the patient to ease needle impingement thereon. A valve/seal assembly disposed in the conduit enables passage of the catheter therethrough while preventing fluid backflow.

In one embodiment, a catheter assembly for insertion into a body of a patient is disclosed and comprises an elongate catheter tube including an outer wall that at least partially defines at least one lumen that extends between a proximal end and a closed distal end thereof. The catheter tube includes a valve assembly that in turn includes a linear slit valve defined through the outer wall of a distal segment of the catheter tube, and a deformation region. The deformation region includes a compliant segment disposed in the outer wall of the catheter tube and a thinned portion of the outer wall. The compliant segment and thinned portion of the deformation region cooperate to preferentially deform the outer wall and open the slit valve during aspiration through the catheter tube.

    摘要: An implantable prosthesis for repairing or augmenting anatomical defects, including an inguinal hernia. The prosthesis may include a repair fabric having a body portion and a pocket on one side of the body portion to facilitate deployment and/or placement of the prosthesis at the defect site.
