Engagement between the engaging members and the engaged pieces is effected by a stepping-in action. The cleat is located in the recess of the sole of the shoe and higher than a surface of the snow board, so that malfunction of the engaging mechanism will not be caused by gripping on snow.

The front binding arrangement selectively engages the front catch 26 that extends downwardly from of the sole portion 22 of the boot 14. The front binding arrangement and the front catch 26 are arranged to limit forward and rearward movement of the boot 14 relative to the binding 12 and prevent premature release of the front catch 26 from the front binding arrangement.

The boot 14 has a mid sole constructed of a first material and an outer sole constructed of a second material. The first material has a lower coefficient of friction than the second material. First and second rear catches 28a, 28b are formed on first and second lateral sides of the mid sole to engage a rear binding arrangement of the binding 12. A front catch 26 of the boot 14 selectively engaes a front binding member of the binding 12. The outer sole partially covers the mid sole such that the mid sole is exposed in an area adjacent at least one of the first and second lateral sides. The binding 12 includes a base member 40 with rear guide member has an upper boot support surface arranged to contact the exposed area of the mid sole.
