A ring member (1) is made of a steel material a rod member (W), which has been rolled so as to have a sectional shape of the ring member (1), with end faces of its opposite ends being joined together. This joining is accomplished by means of a liquid phase bonding such as, for example, welding. The ring member (1) is rendered to be a raw material before a mechanical process is applied for the bearing ring of a rolling bearing assembly. In such case, the ring member (1) has to have an annular groove (3) that is processed to a raceway groove of the rolling bearing assembly. A strengthening treatment through a friction stir welding is applied to a joint (1a) after a rough turning process has been applied to the ring member (1) so as to have a sectional shape resembling to the sectional shape of the bearing ring.

A structure and associated method for forming a liquid metal or spiral groove bearing assembly for an x-ray tube is illustrated that utilizes a unitary sleeve and a thrust ring or seal each formed of a weldable, non-refractory material. The sleeve and the thrust seal are welded to one another to provide an improved construction for minimizing leaks of the liquid metal bearing fluid. The structure of the sleeve and the thrust seal are formed with deformation restricting features that maintain the integrity of the bearing surfaces of the assembly when the thrust seal is secured within the sleeve and welded thereto to form the bearing assembly.
