Preferably, the layer is preheated and the web and image are pressed together by a pair of hard rollers (41, 43) to a pressure in excess of 100 pounds per square inch. A curl preventing layer (8) opposite thermoplastic layer does not offset on a backing roller because it has a melting point above the temperature of the process.

A method of heat fixing a toner image comprises heat fixing a toner image on a recording material with a heating member fixed and supported and a pressurizing member which is opposed to, in pressure contact with said heating member and adapted to bring said recording material into pressure contact with said heating member through a film, wherein said toner image is formed of a toner, said toner comprises a binder resin and a colorant, said binder resin has a melt viscosity of 0.1 to 10⁷ centipoise at 140 o C and the gradient (ϑ) of the straight line represented by the following formula comprising the reciprocal number (1/T) of the absolute temperature when the toner is melted by heating with the heating member and the logarithm (log η) of the melt viscosity of the binder resin at this time is 10² to 3 x 10³: log η = ϑ·(1/T) + B′ (where B′ represents a constant); and peeling off said film from the surface of the recording material having the fixed toner image under the temperature condition which is higher than the temperature T₄ of the maximum value of the heat absorption peak of said toner.

An emulsified polymer color toner in a liquid carrier is provided for application to a latent electrostatic image on an electrostatographic recording member and transferred to a receptor sheet (18). The color toner (14) consists of a colorant (16) and a polymeric binder. A polymer solvent is applied to the receptor sheet surface carrying the deposited toner layer to dissolve part of the binder sufficient to transparentize the color layer, glaze and to fuse the toner layer. The glazing, transparentizing and fusing is effected without increase in dot gain. The polymer dispersant is insoluble in the toner carrier. The polymer solvent is removed from the receptor sheet and the sheet can be polished after removal of the solvent.
