    摘要: A digital payload [202, 300, 500, 600] for processing a sub-band spectrum received on an uplink beam [204] at a communications satellite [200, 1100] includes a digital channelizer [302], a digital switch matrix [304] and a digital combiner [306]. The digital channelizer divides the sub-band spectrum into a plurality of frequency slices [310] that can be routed by the digital switch matrix [304] to any of a number of receiving ports [312]. A digital combiner [306] receives the frequency slices and re-assembles them to form one or more output sub-bands for transmission on an output beam [216] of the communications satellite. The digital payload may also include an embeddable digital regeneration module [308] configured to demodulate some or all of the sub-band spectrum to extract a digital bitstream therefrom. The digital bitstream may be processed to implement code-based multiplexing, switching, access control, and other features.

    摘要: Channel selection at a broadcast receiver for receiving multiplexed broadcast signals is readily and quickly done with good response, improving the convenience of the user. At ground broadcasting stations (BC1, BC2), the spectrum-spreading codes for the channels are made in phase, then the broadcast signals of the channels are code-division multiplexed, and the broadcast signals are transmitted through a geostationary satellite (SAT) to broadcast receivers (MS) in the service area. Alternatively, at a geostationary satellite (SAT), the differences among the spectrum-spreading codes for the channels of CDM broadcast signals transmitted from ground broadcasting stations (BC1, BC2) are found, the spectrum-spreading codes are made in phase based on the differences, and the broadcast signals are transmitted to broadcast receivers (MS).

    摘要: In a digital satellite television system in which a television receives its signal via a receiver/decoder, such as a set top box, interactive applications can be downloaded and run on the receiver/decoder. The application code is arranged as modules, and the downloading of modules is preceded by searching a directory module within a specified local address. The modules are signed and the directory module is signed and encrypted so that a single encryption applies to all of the modules making up the application. Multiple public encryption keys are stored in ROM in the receiver/decoder, so that applications can be created by different sources, without the sources needing to know each other's private encryption keys. A facility is provided to enable an encryption key to be temporarily stored in RAM in the receiver/decoder, so that a manufacturer of the receiver/decoder can check its functionality. A signature of the directory may be hidden at a variable position in a block of dummy data in the directory module. An application to be downloaded may be checked against an application validation bitmap stored in the receiver/decoder.
