摘要： A dual function disposable absorbent insert (10) having an absorbent element (11) and a removable liquid impervious backsheet (30) is provided. Upon removal of the backsheet (30), the absorbent element (11) retains structural integrity and allows liquids to pass clear through. In a preferred embodiment, the insert (10) comprises (from the body contacting layer down): a liquid permeable topsheet (15), an absorbent core (20), a liquid permeable bottomsheet (25), and a liquid impermeable backsheet (30). The backsheet (30) is removable. In its four-layer form the insert (10) can be placed in a user's underpants to provide both absorption and containment of body exudates. With the backsheet (30) removed and with the insert (10) in its three layer form, the insert (10) is intended to be used as a secondary absorbent structure which is placed inside of a primary absorbent structure such as a diaper or brief. In this form the insert (10) acts as an absorbent booster for the primary absorbent structure by providing quick acquisition of liquid gushes and greater total absorbency.

摘要： The invention is providing a flexibly stiff reinforcing member (14) that will maintain the shape of a pad (12) for absorption of human exudate, such as a feminine hygiene pad, during use. The flexibly stiff reinforcing member will return the pad to its desired shape, even after it has been deformed by movement of the wearer. In a particularly preferred form, the flexibly stiff reinforcing member is a flat strip of polyethylene that extends around the periphery of a feminine hygiene pad. In other embodiments, the resilient reinforcing member may only be present in the periphery of the center or crotch portion of the pad. The strength and flexibility required of the reinforcing member will vary depending on the pad stiffness prior to reinforcing of the pad and the use to which the pad is to be put. The reinforcing element is a flexibly stiff, resilient, substantially nonelastic material. The reinforcing element material may be deformed and then is springy and will return to its shape after deformation.

摘要： Leak resistant disposable diaper or incontinent brief particularly suitable for adult wear. The garment is from about two or three times as long as it is wide so that the sides of the wearer are not covered. Each end of the garment has a relatively long flap (14, 16) formed by extensions of the envelope retaining the pad of absorbent material. The absorbent pad itself (4) is trimmed generally in the form of an hourglass (19). However, the cutout side portions are located forward of the transverse centerline of the pad. Also, the forward edge of the cutouts does not expand as rapidly to full width as does the back edge to allow a better fit in the groin area. Elastic strips (10) are located adjacent to the edges of the pad and run the full length of the product. Relatively long attachment straps (12, 12') are anchored to the back flap and form the means of holding the garment on the wearer. The adhesive on the free ends of the attachment straps is preferably one that is high in shear strength but low in peel strength in reference to the thermoplastic moisture impervious backsheet of the diaper. This allows the straps to be easily removed and reattached if desired, but provides a firm grip while the garment is being worn.

摘要： The invention relates to apparatus for folding diapers (1)and like articles, in which apparatus the article is advanced to a folding station by means of a conveyor (2). The folding station includes a driven folding roll (4) which co-acts with a counter roll (9) in a manner to feed the article to at least one driven transport roll (11,12). The folding roll is provided with a folding finger arrangement (7) intended for pressing a central part of the article into the nip between the folding roll and the transport roll (12) located therebeneath during the second folding phase.
