Bei einem Stanznietkopf (1) zum Vernieten von Befestigungselementen (3) an Blech- und insbesondere Rohkarosserieteilen (4, 5), mit einem an einem Gehäuse (6) verschieblich geführten, in Richtung einer anschlagbegrenzten Ausfahrposition federbelasteten Blechhalter (8), einem gehäusefesten, in einen zentralen Nietkanal (10) des Blechhalters eingreifenden Nietstempel (11) und einem Zufuhrmechanismus mit einem seitlich in den Nietkanal mündenden Zufuhrkanal (14) zur taktweisen Zuführung der Befestigungselemente sowie mit einer Halterung (15, 16) zur Fixierung eines dem Nietkanal zugeführten Befestigungselements bis zum Ausschieben und Vernieten durch den Nietstempel, werden erfindungsgemäß die Stillstandzeiten bei einem Auswechseln oder Nachjustieren einzelner Nietkopfkomponenten dadurch wesentlich verkürzt, dass der Stanznietkopf durch Lösen der Hubbegrenzung (7) des Blechhalters zerlegbar ist, wobei der Nietstempel in der Weise am Gehäuse fixiert ist, dass die auf den Blechhalter wirkende Federkraft gehäuseseitig unter Zwischenschaltung des Nietstempels abgestützt ist.

A fastening machine (e.g. for rivets) has a fastening head (20) where the fasteners (30) are brought into alignment with the punch (22) and die in a carrier tape (10). The carrier tape (10) has a web (11) with slots (15, 16) or teeth engageable by a sprocket wheel (27) which sequentially advances the fasteners (30) until the stems (31) engage a retractable stop (32). When the punch (22) is advanced, the fasteners (30) are pushed through the carrier tape (10) to be deformed by an upsetting die aligned with the punch (22). In modified embodiments, the fasteners (30) are urged transversely from the web of the carrier tape, the carrier tape being advanced by a gear which engages teeth on a side flange on the carrier tape. The sprocket wheel (27) may be remotely driven e.g. by a flexible cable drive to accommodate the movement as the fastening head (20) is advanced towards, or retracted from, the upsetting die.

The apparatus includes finger carrying means (10) which are carried by an anvil (12) for telescoping movement relative to the anvil, the finger carrying means including a bore (36) coaxial with the anvil and through which the anvil may pass as it moves from a raised position to a lowered position. The finger carrying means is provided with a side port (38) through which fasteners (R) may be inserted by a gravity injector, the side port being disposed below the anvil when it is in its raised position. A plurality of annular arrays of resilient fingers (54) are mounted in the bore below the side port. A fastener (R), after being injected into the bore of the finger carrying means, is pushed by the anvil through the fingers as the anvil moves to its lowered position, the annular arrays of resilient fingers properly orienting the fastener in coaxial alignment with the anvil and with a hole in a workpiece.
