An induction heating device and an induction heating method are provided. The entire areas to be heated of the workpiece, even a large workpiece, can be readily and approximately uniformly heated to a predetermined high temperature, and uniform heating is possible even when the workpiece deforms in a non-uniform manner during heating. When areas to be heated H1, H2 are established on a workpiece W so as to extend in one direction and the areas to be heated H1, H2 are induction-heated, the deformation amount on one edge of the areas to be heated H1, H2 is different from that on the other. This induction heating device includes: heating coils 451 facing a portion of the areas to be heated H1, H2 when the workpiece W is induction-heated; and a relative transfer means for transferring the workpiece W and the heating coils 451 along one direction in a relative manner, and the heating coils 451 are disposed so as to correspond to the areas to be heated H1, H2 during the heating period.

An induction heating apparatus comprises a rectifier circuit (1) at its input, connected to the electric mains (2), an intermediate energy storage device, a single inverter circuit (3), a single resonant output circuit (4), a single heating inductor (5) and a block for auxiliary supply, regulation, supervision, display, cooling and communication (6). The single resonant output circuit (4) with four reactive components is able to generate a resulting current produced by simultaneously superimposing two current components with different frequencies. The power of each of the two different frequency components present at the output of the single resonant circuit (4) is regulated independently. The resulting current feeds the single heating inductor (5), generating a magnetic field allowing for special induction heating/hardening of complex surface parts such as gearwheels or sprockets. Some inverter semiconductors are of silicon carbide technology (SIC) devices.

An induction heating converter whose input is connected to the electrical mains (1) and which has at least two inverters (3,4) supplied by a single voltage source, whose outputs are connected to a resonant circuit (5) of at least three reactive components able to generate a current produced by simultaneously superimposing at least two different frequencies. This current supplies a single coil in order to generate a magnetic field enabling multi-frequency induction heating processes. The converter has a block for auxiliary power supply, regulation, supervision, display, cooling and communication (7). The proposed system enables independent power regulation of each of the different frequencies. It can be applied, amongst other uses, to induction heating of complex surface workpieces such as gearwheels or sprockets.
