(a) heating a mixture of at least one alkali metal salt and a source of phosphorus pentoxide until said mixture melts; and (b) quenching said melted mixture.

Dense rotary dried sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) particles having a bulk density of at least 0.9 g/cc and a particle size distribution of 0 to 85% by weight +20 mesh, 15 to 100% by weight -20 +100 mesh and 0 to 20% by weight -100 mesh are moisturized by adding a sufficient amount of water to produce a material containing on the average between about 10% and about 30% by weight moisture. The moisturized material is calcined to a temperature within the range of from about 300 to about 600°C, to produce a granular STPP product having low friability, high absorptivity and a bulk density within the range of from about 0.65 to about 0.87 g/cc.

Provided are a positive electrode material, a preparation method therefor and a use thereof. The positive electrode material comprises a ternary positive electrode material, aluminum tripolyphosphate and a binder. The preparation method comprises: (1) forming a positive electrode material pre-mixture by means of mixing reaction between aluminum tripolyphosphate and the ternary positive electrode material; (2) mixing a colloidal silica sol with the positive electrode material pre-mixture to form a positive electrode material mixture; (3) drying the positive electrode material mixture to obtain a positive electrode material matrix; and (4) sintering the positive electrode material matrix to obtain the positive electrode material. The positive electrode material can be used as a positive electrode material in a lithium-ion battery.

A beverage containing a mixed sodium potassium polyphosphate glass with a high potassium to sodium ratio and a low level of insoluble material is provided. The mixed sodium-potassium polyphosphate glass has the formula (K,Na) (n+2) O(PO 3 ) n , and contains less than 10% by weight insoluble material. These materials are effective in controlling yeast, mold, and bacterial growth. The beverage comprises about 100 ppm to about 3000 ppm of a polyphosphate.

A concentrated aqueous alkali metal polyphosphate solution is prepared by adding polyphosphoric acid having a P₂O₅ assay of about 82% to about 85% to a quantity of concentrated aqueous alkali metal hydroxide sufficient to neutralize the acid. The resulting polyphosphate solution is richer in pyrophosphate and tripolyphosphate moieties than the acid.
