The movable member (12) moves upon the flexures (28, 30) in tandem with the actuator (41) as it moves toward and away from the edge of a disk (62, 64) in the drive. The movable member (12) carries the suspension arm (52, 54) of the actuator (41) to the edge of the disk (62, 64), at which point the suspension arm (52, 54) can ride up and down the ramped surface (14a, 14b, 16a, 16b) of the movable member (12) in order to load the read/write head (56, 58) onto the surface of the disk (62, 64) and then subsequently unload the read/write head (56, 58).

The hub assembly of a disk cartridge has an annular groove (18) formed in its bottom surface. The outer periphery (18a) of the annular groove undercuts the bottom surface of the hub assembly to form an annular lip (18b) around the outer periphery of the groove. A data storage device designed to receive the disk cartridge has a spindle motor with at least one latch member (120b) mounted on the upper portion of the motor via a flexure. The latch member on the spindle motor enters the annular groove on the hub assembly of the disk cartridge when the disk cartridge is inserted into the data storage device. When the spindle motor spins-up to its operating speed, the latch member (120b) moves radially outwardly on its flexure and engages the annular lip (18b) in the hub assembly, thereby preventing separation of the hub assembly from the spindle motor during rotation.

Therefore, when the shutter member (8) is attached to the shell (2), the guide claw (83a) is not in contact with the surface of the shell (2) and shavings of the shell (2) are not produced accordingly.

A movable platform (50) is mounted on opposing guide rails (52, 54) within a disk drive (40). A head actuator (60) and a spindle motor (82) are mounted on the movable platform. The platform moves on the guide rails from a forward position to a rearward position upon insertion of a disk cartridge (10) into the disk drive. As the platform moves toward the rearward position, the elevation of the platform changes in order to bring the spindle motor in engagement with the hub of the disk cartridge. A latch member (138) is pivotally mounted on one of the guide rails for latching the platform in its forward position when the disk drive is not in use.
