摘要: A petrol injection system for a spark ignition engine includes a plurality of injectors which are mounted on the air inlet manifold of the engine. The injectors have housings (19) of hollow rectangular shape which accommodate electrical connections (18) for the control windings. Plugs (22) forming part of a wiring harness are engaged within the housings and the plugs are moulded integrally with a cover (24) which serves to locate the injectors in the correct angular relationship.

摘要: A fuel pumping apparatus includes a high pressure pump and a low pressure pump contained in a housing and driven by a drive shaft which is coupled to a rotary part of an internal combustion engine. The low pressure pump is a vane pump having a rotor (10) in which is formed a plurality of outwardly extending slots (12) which accommodate outwardly spring loaded vanes (16). The edges of the vanes engage an eccentrically disposed surface (14) formed on a stator (13). The pump has end plates and inlet and outlet ports (22, 23) communicating with the space (21) defined between said surface (14) and the outer surface of the rotor. The outer edges of each vane are formed with grooves (19) which extend along the edges and the grooves (19) communicate by way of passages (20) with the inner ends of the respective slots (12). Side plates are disposed at the opposite ends of the rotor and one of the side plates has an opening (27) which is positioned after the inlet port (22) in the direction of rotation of the rotor, the opening being positioned below the normal level of fuel in the housing and communicating in turn with the inner ends of the slots.

The component is biased by a spring (38) to a minimum fuel position and to adjust the setting of the component there is provided a three armed lever (44) one arm (39) of which is coupled to the component. The other two arms (47, 48) are coupled to engine operating parameter responsive devices (49A, 60). In the example the device (49A) is a piston (49) which is spring loaded and is responsive to the output pressure of a low pressure fuel pump and the device (60) includes a diaphragm (62) which is subjected to the air inlet manifold pressure.

摘要: An electromagnetically operable valve comprises a valve member 20 slidable in a bore 18 in which there is a seating 19. The valve member is moved to the closed position by a solenoid 17 having an armature 25. A tubular coupling member 23 is secured to the armature and is connected to the valve member through an overtravel spring 32 housed within the coupling member. The coupling member has a flange 24 for engagement with a stop surface 16 to limit the movement of the armature after the valve member has contacted the seating. A return spring 27 is also housed within the coupling member.

摘要: A fuel injection nozzle of the inwardly opening type has a valve member (16) slidable in a bore (15) in a nozzle body which is secured to a holder (10). The valve member is biased by a first spring (21) into contact with a seating and is movable from the seating by fuel under pressure. An abutment rod (25) is engageable by the valve member after a predetermined movement of the valve member away from the seating. The abutment rod is biased by a second spring (27) housing in an insert (24) mounted in screw thread engagement within a bore in the holder. The rod extends through and is guided by an aperture (24A) in the insert and is further guided by guide means removed from the insert. The guide means can be a bush (23) carried by the holder, the coils of the first spring (21) or the valve member.

摘要: A fuel pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a pumping plunger (13) mounted in a bore (10) and movable inwardly by an engine driven cam (8) to displace fuel through an outlet (11) to an injection nozzle (12). The quantity of fuel supplied to the nozzle is controlled by a spill valve (15). The apparatus also includes a restricted flow path (19, 18) through which fuel can flow to reduce the initial rate of fuel delivery through the nozzle, the flow path including a valve formed by the plunger and the bore so that fuel can flow through the flow path only during the initial inward movement of the plunger.

摘要: A fuel pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine comprises a rotary distributor member (10) mounting a pumping plunger (16) slidable in a bore (15) and moved inwardly to discharge fuel from the bore by cam lobes on the internal surface of a cam ring (28), the cam lobes acting on the plunger through a cam follower (26, 27). A valve (37) is provided which at a predetermined position during the inward movement of the plunger, is opened to lower the pressure in the bore and thereby to terminate fuel flow through an outlet (20). The valve is actuated by the cam lobes either from the cam follower or from the plunger.

摘要: A fuel injection pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to a compression ignition engine has an annular cam ring which has internal cam lobes for imparting inward movement through cam followers respectively to pumping plungers mounted in a rotary distributor member. Stop rings are mounted alongside the cam ring to determine the maximum outward movement of the plungers. The stop rings are angularly adjustable to enable the maximum amount of fuel supplied to the engine to be varied. Two adjusting devices are provided the first being a piston (37) which is subject to a fluid pressure varying with speed. The piston is biased by a spring and sets the stop rings to allow an excess of fuel for engine starting purposes and the second is a diaphragm assembly responsive to the air pressure in the engine inlet manifold. In order to save space the piston is slidable within a housing (34) which also accommodates the diaphragm assembly and the diaphragm assembly is coupled to the stop rings by means of a push rod (54) which passes through an aperture in the piston.
