A differential micro-regions single lamina fibrous web is disclosed. The fibrous web comprises at least two pluralities of micro-regions disposed in a non-random and repeating pattern: a first plurality of micro-regions comprising fibers interconnected with a fiber-bonding substance, and a second plurality of micro-regions, preferably not interconnected with the fiber-binding substance. The fiber-binding substance is selected from the group consisting of hemicelluloses, lignin, polymeric extractives, and any combination thereof. The fibers of the first plurality of micro-regions are bonded together by a process of softening, flowing, and immobilization of the fiber-binding substance between the cellulosic fibers. The process for making the fibrous web comprises the steps of heating the web containing the fiber-binding substance to a temperature sufficient to cause the fiber-bonding substance to soften; pressurizing the fibrous web thereby causing the fiber-binding substance to flow and interconnect those fibers which are mutually juxtaposed in the first plurality of micro-regions; and then immobilizing the fiber-binding substance thereby creating fiber-bonds between the fibers which are interconnected in the first plurality of micro-regions.

The pores are the limiting orifice in the air flow used in the drying process. The micropore medium has a relatively low wet pressure drop therethrough. This relatively low wet pressure drop advantageously reduces the energy costs used in drying, and/or allows for greater drying to be obtained at constant energy costs.

The invention relates to articles useful in cleansing, and particularly to wet-like cleansing wipes that are especially useful for hardsurface cleaning, and in personal cleansing such as baby wipes and particularly for removal of perianal soils. These articles comprise: a carrier and an emulsion applied to the carrier. The emulsion comprises: (1) from about 2 to about 60 % of a continuous solidified lipid phase comprising a waxy lipid material having a melting point of about 30 °C of higher; (2) from about 39 to about 97 % of an internal polar (e.g., water) phase dispersed in the lipid phase; (3) an effective amount of a non-silicon containing emulsifier, where the emulsifier has a viscosity at 55 °C of more than about 500 centipoise; and (4) an optional second emulsifier having a viscosity at 55 °C of less than about 400 centipoise. Because the emulsion comprises the waxy external phase, the internal polar phase is retained in the emulsion until in-use shear pressures break the emulsion, thereby providing desired moisture for cleaning. The invention also relates to a process for making the cleaning articles.

A limiting orifice through-air-drying apparatus for papermaking or other absorbent embryonic webs. The apparatus has a first zone (41) and a second zone (42). The first (41) zone is maintained at a differential pressure less than the breakthrough pressure, while the second zone (42) is maintained at a differential pressure greater than the breakthrough pressure. The residence time of the embryonic web to be dried with the apparatus is maintained at preferably less than 35 milliseconds on the first zone. Using the dual zone system described above, the overall energy required to run the apparatus can be reduced.

A method and apparatus for drying of a cellulosic fibrous structure having constant basis weight and/or density or multiple regions varying in basis weight and/or density. Such a cellulosic fibrous structure may have a nonuniform moisture distribution prior to drying by the disclosed method and apparatus. An equally or more uniform moisture distribution is achieved by providing a micropore medium in the air flow path which has a greater flow resistance than the interstices between the fibers in the cellulosic fibrous structure web. The micropore medium is the limiting orifice in the air flow used in the drying process. The micropore medium may be executed in a laminate of plural laminae, each of successively increasing or decreasing pore size. This arrangement provides the advantage that minimal sagging or deformation of each lamina into the next coarser lamina occurs and lateral air flow between the micropore medium and the cellulosic fibrous structure is reduced. The micropore medium may be disposed either upstream or downstream in the air flow path of the cellulosic fibrous structure to be through-air dried.
