The invention relates to a method of destructing mineral-wool scrap and re-using the scrap in the manufacture of mineral wool. The method is characterized by introducing the mineral-wool scrap into a container in a finely-divided state, and causing the finely-divided scrap to pass through a heating zone generated by an oxygen burner. The mineral-wool scrap is converted to a liquid state in the heating zone and the molten scrap is then introduced to a molten bath produced in a furnace for the manufacture of mineral wool, or to an intermediate container which is mounted between the furnace and a spinning machine. Molten material taken from the furnace is also delivered to the intermediate container. The invention also relates to an arrangement for destructing mineral-wool scrap and re-using the scrap in the manufacture of mineral wool. This arrangement includes a container (20, 31), at least one oxygen burner (25) mounted in the container wall (24; 33, 34) and functioning to melt the mineral-wool scrap, at least one conduit (21) for removing molten mineral-wool scrap, this conduit (21) connecting the container (20, 31) with a furnace (200) intended for the manufacture of mineral wool, or to an intermediate container (40) mounted between the furnace (200) and a spinning machine.

A method and an apparatus for displacing of particles on and into a loose layer of material, for instance a mineral wool layer (2) by means of an apparatus comprising means, for instance one or more conveyors (4, 10) for continuously advancing the layer of material and means for subjecting the layer of material to a constant force and concurrently therewith an oscillation energy within the acoustic area. The constant force may be applied in that the conveyor is mounted sloping downwards in the advancing direction whereby the gravety force is the constant force, or it may be a flow of air which is blowing against and which is allowed to pass through the layer of material. The oscillation energy may be provided by means of one or more sound emitting means (9, 14) mounted above the layer of material and preferably co-operating with a collection means (7, 12) mounted underneath the layer of material. By the method and the apparatus particles may be expelled from the layer of material or particles supplied to the surface of the layer of material may be forced into and distributed in the interior of the layer of material or both operations may be carried through concurrently.

An apparatus and dry method for de-shotting shot-containing mineral wool fibers wherein the fibers are treated in a granulator to compact them into entangled nodules, and the nodules are passed through an air classifier to open up and de-shot them. In a preferred embodiment, a felted layer of mineral wool is subjected to a first granulation step to divide the layer into a multiplicity of lightly compacted nodules which are then partially de-shotted, and the partially de-shotted nodules are subjected to a second granulation step to more tightly compact the nodules before they are introduced into the air classifier.

A method and an apparatus for collecting and handling partly fibrated material which is formed by a partial fibrating of a mineral bloom (1), whereby the partiallyfibrated material is collected and brought into suspension in a water bath (11) in which the un-fibrated material is separated and the fibrated material is collected and removed for the manufacture of mineral fibre products. In the water bath (11) the fibre fraction and the partially fibrated material is kept in water suspension (by 12) whereas un-fibrated and more heavy material is allowed to sink to the bottom from which such material is removed (by 13). The collecting of the fibre material just formed is preferably made by flows of water (6,7) and while suspending the fibre material in air (by 38,40). The separation of fibre material is made by dynamical separation in one or several stages.
