Abstract: A plant for utilising the energy in the waves which are present at a given time in a section of a water area, such as an ocean or a lake. The plant comprises a base located in this section and in the shape of a platform or raft and a wave converter (20) placed on the base and serving for transforming the wave motion of the water into whirling motion. The plant furthermore comprises a number of adjacent wave catches (21a, b, c) each having at least one catch plate (23a, b, c) for catching at least part of the water of the waves and making this water flow down along the catch plate from a top front edge to a bottom rear edge on the plate, and a whirl pipe for each wave catch for, via a slot extending along the rear edge of the at least one catch plate, taking up the water flowing along the catch plate so that this water will describe a whirling motion in the whirl pipe. The plant can utilise the average energy in the waves better and with less construction costs than known so far.

Abstract: A device for extracting energy from a water body (4) comprises a buoyant member of variable buoyancy (6) which is at least partially submerged in the body of water (4). The buoyant member of variable buoyancy (6) contains a fixed mass of gas (7), the volume of which changes as a result of the pressure changes exerted on the buoyant member (6) by waves (10,11) and/or other changes in the water level above. The buoyant member (6) is preferably constructed from a substantially air-tight, flexible or otherwise elastic material, whereby the volume of the buoyant member of variable buoyancy (6) may alter in response to changes in the volume of gas (7) contained therein. The pressure changes result in volume changes of the gas contained within the variably buoyancy, which causes fluctuations in volume of the variable buoyancy. As a result of changes in volume a change in buoyancy occurs. This results in a corresponding change in upthrust exerted by the variable buoyancy (6) which affects the forces exerted on an energy conversion unit (8).

Abstract: A coaxial duplex turbine in which a Wales' turbine is provided on the inner peripheral side, a first annular fluid flow is formed for rotating said Wales' turbine, and a second fluid flow is formed radially outside the first flow so as to rotate another turbine provided on the outer peripheral side. At the time of startup, a turbine on the outer peripheral side starts rotating first, the output of this turbine actuates the compressor, and an accelerated and compressed fluid is fed into the hollow turbine blades of said Wales' turbine and then discharged through a passage bent to the side of the trailing edge in a blade. Such structure intends to improve self-starting function and energy conversion efficiency of the Wales' turbine. The apparatus of this invention is principally used for a wave activated power generator.

Abstract: New and improved methods and means are described for the efficient, expeditions, economical and safe conversion to usable form of almost all subsurface wave energy available within a predetermined annular region spanned by an array of submerged wave energy removing impellers (28, 30, 50) mounted upon an annular outrigger (3) surrounding and secured to a seagoing central platform. Maximal progressive inward attenuation of practically any state of the open sea is achieved over a very broad wave frequency band by buoyant, nonbuoyant, and neutrally buoyant impellers that function approximately as generalized simple pendulums whose natural frequencies fall at regular intervals throughout that frequency band. Optimal functioning of the impellers is achieved by assigning to their working members (38, 40) suitable degrees of omnidirectional response to water movement drag and inertial forces, respectively. After conversion by pumps (46), the extracted wave energy is conveyed via a pressure transmission subsystem to a central turbine (12) for further conversion and subsequent storage and/or product processing within the central platform.

Abstract: A buoyant hydrodynamic pump is disclosed that can float on a surface of a body of water over which waves tend to pass. The pump incorporates an open-bottomed tube with a constriction. The tube partially encloses a substantial volume of water with which the tube's constriction interacts, creating and/or amplifying oscillations therein in response to wave action. Wave-driven oscillations result in periodic upward ejections of portions of the water inside the tube that can be collected in a reservoir that is at least partially positioned above the mean water level of the body of water, or pressurized by compressed air or gas, or both. Water within such a reservoir may return to the body of water via a turbine, thereby generating electrical power (making the device a wave engine), or else the device's pumping action can be used for other purposes such as water circulation, propulsion, or cloud seeding.

Abstract: A power generation unit using wave energy, a power generation device using wave energy and a power generation method using wave energy are provided. The power generation unit includes individual backward bent duct structures connected in parallel. Each individual backward bent duct structure includes a bent duct and a floating body. The bent duct includes a vertical section of the bent duct and a horizontal section of the bent duct. An upper part of the horizontal section is connected with the floating body. The vertical sections communicate with each other. The vertical section of one of the multiple individual backward bent duct structures is connected with an air chamber pipeline in which an air turbine is arranged. The individual backward bent duct structures are connected together, and the vertical sections communicate with each other to do work on a same air turbine so that the flow rate of reciprocating airflow in an air chamber can be increased, the utilization efficiency of wave energy can be remarkably improved, and the installed capacity can be improved. A thought of improving the wave energy utilization efficiency by forming resonance is provided, and the maximum wave height of the movement on the water surface in the air chamber is obtained in a process that parameter optimization is performed on the power generation device using wave energy.
