    Abstract: A wave energy converter (WEC) buoy includes at least one pitch-driven WEC (“PDWEC”) device. Each PDWEC device includes two reaction masses which are placed at diametrically opposite ends of a container designed to float along the surface of a body of water and to move in response to the pitching motion of the waves. The reaction masses are interconnected so that when one reaction mass moves up, the diametrically opposed reaction mass moves down, and vice-versa. The movement of the reaction masses drives power take off (PTO) devices to produce useful energy. The reaction masses may be interconnected by any suitable linking system. One or more PDWEC device may be combined with a heave responsive device to produce a WEC buoy which can produce a power output in response to pitch or heave motion.

    Abstract: The plant (1) is used for exploiting the energy of a wave motion of water of an ocean or a sea or a lake; it comprises a structure (2) that is fastened to the ground and that is adapted to transform the wave motion of water into an oscillatory motion of a water column (3), a vessel (4) adapted to float on the water column (3) and to operate at variable displacement, and a pumping unit (5); the vessel (4) comprises a hull (41) with ballast cavities (42); the pumping unit (5) is housed at least partially in the hull (41) and is constrained to said structure (2); the pumping unit (5) has inlets (51) for water to be pumped fluidly connected to the bottom of the hull (41), and outlets (52) for pumped water; a pumping pipe (6) is fluidly connected with the outlets (52) of the pumping unit (5) and is adapted to supply pumped water to an artificial basin or a tank (7); the vessel (4) further comprises cavities (42) associated with the hull (41) adapted to receive water from the water column (3) while the vessel (4) rises and to return water to the water column (3) while the vessel (4) descends.

    Abstract: A wave energy extraction device (or paddle) for converting wave energy into mechanical motion is curved in the horizontal plane, with a concave side (11) facing the incoming waves to increase energy capture and a convex side (12) on the lee side to reduce energy dissipation. The concave surface is substantially parabolic or semi-elliptical and the convex side is optionally provided with a substantially Gaussian profile (4) to improve the hydrodynamics and provide additional strength. To simplify connection to a base platform the paddle curvature optionally tapers to a straight edge (1) at the mounting points and the base device can be located either above or below the water surface. One embodiment is also curved about a vertical as well as the horizontal plane to create a spoon- or cup-shaped paddle (9).
