A drier apparatus for removing water from various materials includes a drying chamber, a regenerator system, a drying fluid system, and a heating fluid recirculation system and a method for use of the apparatus. The material to be dried flows concurrently through the drier with a heating fluid that is segregated from the material but in heat transfer relationship with the material. A drying fluid flows countercurrent through the chamber so as to become heated and at least partially saturated from moisture released by the material. The drying fluid is then used to preheat recycled heating fluid which is further heated by a makeup heater. In some embodiments, the drying fluid is also recycled to the chamber after passing through a chiller.

A drier for drying wet material, especially particulate material, includes a drying chamber with a plurality of heating region regions and a plurality of drying regions, alternatively located along the path of the material through the drier. Each of the heating regions is heated with heating fluid by a heating recirculation system wherein the heating fluid overall flows generally concurrently with the material relative to the chamber, but wherein the heating fluid can flow in various ways within each heating region. A fluid circulation system flows drying fluid through each of the drying regions generally countercurrent flow relative to the flow of material through the drier, although the drying fluid can flow in various ways within each drying compartment. The drying fluid exiting the drier is used to preheat the heating fluid exiting the drier prior to the heating fluid reentering the drier. Makeup heat is supplied to the system.

Um während des Trocknungsprozesses klebende Schlämme umweltfreundlich zu entsorgen und nicht als wässerige Lösungen auf Sondermülldeponien abzulagern, wird erfindungsgemäß vorgeschlagen, den feuchten Schlamm (5) auf ein Trägermaterialband (8) aufzutragen und dann durch einen Trocknungsofen (3) zu schicken. In dem Trocknungsofen (3) werden die flüchtigen Bestandteile aus dem Schlamm (5) ausgetrocknet. Hierbei trocknet der Schlamm (5) und verklebt mit dem Trägermaterialband (8, 9) zu einer festen Einheit. Diese Einheit kann dann problemlos entsorgt werden oder als Unterlage für Sportplätze, Wege o.ä. verwendet werden.
