摘要: A method and apparatus for the continuous sublimation of a substance includes cascading a material containing a substance capable of sublimation, such as water, between a plurality of trays vertically stacked within a processing zone provided within a processing chamber. A substantially atmospheric environment is maintained within the processing zone at a temperature whereby the substance sublimes forming a sublimate within the environment. The environment containing the sublimate is contacted with a drying agent such as a desiccant to maintain the environment whereby the substance sublimes at substantially atmospheric pressure and at the controlled temperature.

摘要: A drier for drying wet material, especially particulate material, includes a drying chamber with a plurality of heating region regions and a plurality of drying regions, alternatively located along the path of the material through the drier. Each of the heating regions is heated with heating fluid by a heating recirculation system wherein the heating fluid overall flows generally concurrently with the material relative to the chamber, but wherein the heating fluid can flow in various ways within each heating region. A fluid circulation system flows drying fluid through each of the drying regions generally countercurrent flow relative to the flow of material through the drier, although the drying fluid can flow in various ways within each drying compartment. The drying fluid exiting the drier is used to preheat the heating fluid exiting the drier prior to the heating fluid reentering the drier. Makeup heat is supplied to the system.

摘要: A tray for supporting particulate material in an apparatus for processing. The tray includes an upper plate which has pluralities of associated groupings of first apertures formed therein. The tray also includes a lower plate which has a plurality of second apertures formed therein. Each of said second apertures corresponds with, and generally underlies, one of the associated groupings of first apertures formed in the upper plate. Further, the tray also includes a plurality of staybolts which extend between the upper and lower plates. Each staybolt has a first end which circumscribes an associated grouping of first apertures and defines a shoulder in engagement with a lower surface of the upper plate. Each staybolt also has a second end received through one of the second apertures. Each staybolt also has a wall defining a conduit passing therethrough from the first to the second end thereof. The conduit serves to direct fluid having passed through a corresponding second aperture, through the corresponding associated grouping of first apertures. Spacing and positioning of first apertures in one associated grouping relative to an adjacent grouping of first apertures is such that distribution of all of the first apertures is generally uniform throughout the upper plate.

摘要: An improved apparatus and method for efficiently processing material, e.g. incinerating waste material, particularly dewatered waste water sludge, in a multiple hearth furnace by injecting high velocity jets of oxygen into the heating or drying zone of the furnace to augment turbulent gas-phase mixing, to aid in the burnout of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in the gas phase to achieve lower emissions, to increase convection over the drying sludge to increase its drying rate, and to ignite the drying sludge to further increase its drying rate. The apparatus and method provides an increase in sludge throughput and a reduction in carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbon emissions.

摘要: A flowable solid material is continuously fed into the upper portion of a cylindrical vessel (15) having vertically spaced horizontal decks (20-24), and each deck has concentrically spaced annular zones (27) of perforations (28). Air is forced upwardly through the perforations to produce a recirculating bed of material above each deck with an upward spouting flow of material above the zones of perforations and a downward flow of material between the zones of perforations. Concentric heat exchangers (32) extend vertically between the zones of perforations, and the material is fed progressively downwardly through the vessel to form the beds and for discharge from the lowermost bed. Sweep arms (57) rotate above the decks and below the heat exchangers, and the air is exhausted from the vessel to a cyclone separator (140) which separates solid particles and provides clean air for recirculation. The apparatus may be used for drying, cooling, treating or burning a flowable solid material.
