摘要: A wireless communication network for programming and monitoring a plurality of network-managed devices, including electronic-ink based display devices, comprising a network management computer system, a network gateway device, one or more wireless network routers, a plurality of network-managed devices, and a network coordinator. The wireless communication network of the present invention bridges the gap between wireless display networks, wireless sensor networks, and the worlds of passive, active and partially-active RFID and real-time locating systems. The wireless communication network of the present invention allows conventional communication network protocols to operate in more flexible ways in dynamic, diverse, and heterogeneous application environments, in fields including retail, healthcare, transport, logistics, manufacturing, education, etc. At the same time, the wireless communication network of the present invention is preferably based on the IEEE 802.15.4 network layer standard, which offers low-cost wireless network communication between a large number of wireless network end-devices.

摘要: A laser scanner for reading symbology, such as barcodes. The laser scanner includes a housing, a laser source or generator disposed in the housing and operative to generate a laser beam, and an output window (20) supported by housing and being positioned to receive the laser beam (11) incident thereon. The window is operative to transmit the laser beam therethrough at a symbology target (16). In one embodiment, the window includes a vertical wedge angle between front (12) and rear (14) surfaces of the window that is oriented substantially in alignment with a vertical axis defined by the window. The vertical wedge angle is preferably oriented perpendicular to a horizontally-extending scanning line of the laser beam on the window. In one embodiment, the vertical wedge angle is substantially the same along the entire length or width of the window.

摘要: An automatically-activated code symbol reading system (1) comprising a bar code symbol reading mechanism (4) contained within a hand-supportable housing having a manually-activatable data transmission switch (7A). During symbol reading operations, the bar code symbol reading mechanism (4) automatically generates a visible laser scanning pattern (10) for repeatedly reading one or more bar code symbols on an object during a bar code symbol reading cycle, and automatically generating a new symbol character data string in response to each bar code symbol read thereby. During system operation, the user visually aligns the visible laser scanning pattern (3, 10) with a particular bar code symbol on an object (e.g., product, bar code menu, etc.) so that the bar code symbol is scanned, detected and decoded in a cyclical manner. During the bar code symbol reading cycle, the user actuates the data transmission switch (7A) producing a data transmission control activation signal and enabling a currently or subsequently produced symbol character data string to be automatically selected and transmitted to the host system (5).

摘要: A laser scanner system (20) for producing and projecting a multi-line scanning pattern (32) into a space (30) in which a bar code is to be brought. The system (20) includes plural modular laser scanners (100), each producing a line scan pattern, but mounted with respect to one another so that the pattern of each scanner is projected into the space (30) to conjoin to form the multi-line pattern (32). Each module (100) is arranged to receive light reflected off the object to convert that light into electrical output signals indicative of the bars and spaces of the code. The system also includes means (126) for decoding the output signals and for providing the decoded signals to some peripheral device, e.g., an electronic cash register or computer. In one embodiment the scanner is located adjacent a conveyor (24) carrying bar coded items (26) to form an automated check-out counter.

摘要: A bar code symbol driven system for accessing information resources from information servers connected to communication networks, including the Internet. The system includes a bar code symbol reader (7a) for reading bar code symbols encoded with information representative of information resources stored in information servers connected to the Internet and supporting the TCP/IP standard. A computing platform (6) is provided for supporting an Internet browser. A telecommunication modem is operably connected to the computing platform in order to establish a two way telecommunication link between the Internet browser and an Internet service provider (ISP) connected to the Internet. In response to reading bar code symbols (8), the Internet browser automatically accesses information resources from Internet information servers (2) using the information encoded in bar code symbols read by the bar code symbol reader (7a).
