A method of producing an aluminum substrate for a planographic printing plate is provided in which a recycled material including a used planographic printing plate having a planographic printing plate support obtained by treating an aluminum substrate is prepared, a recycled bare metal is obtained from the recycled material, and a new aluminum bare metal and a trace-metal master alloy of necessary amounts are mixed into the recycled bare metal to produce a new aluminum substrate.

A lithographic printing plate support in which surface unevenness due to surface treatment has been suppressed and a presensitized plate of excellent sensitivity are produced from an aluminum alloy plate containing iron, silicon, titanium and boron by specifying the state in which TiB 2 particles are present in the surface layer and the width of the crystal grains, and by having specific indicators relating to the respective concentrations of iron and silicon in the surface layer following graining treatment fall within specific ranges. In a method of manufacturing the lithographic printing plate support, an aluminum alloy melt having specified alloying ingredients is subjected to a specified casting process to have the amount of the alloying ingredients in solid solution following cold rolling fall within specified ranges.

An object of the present invention is to provide an electrolysis apparatus that can prevent formation of surface defects such as white bands on an obtained aluminum support for a planographic printing plate even when electrolyzing an aluminum strip at a high current density while conveying the aluminum strip at a high conveyance velocity. The electrolysis apparatus is used for electrolyzing a metal strip conveyed in one direction. The apparatus includes a plurality of electrolysis cells arranged in series, wherein the metal strip is electrolyzed in an acidic electrolyte by applying an alternating current. In an electrolysis cell disposed in the downstream-most position with respect to the conveyance direction of the metal strip, electrolysis is carried out at a lower current density than in an electrolysis cell disposed in an upstream electrolysis cell with respect to the conveyance direction.
