The invention relates to oxidation colorants, used to colour keratin fibres, in particular, human hair, which contain the following in a medium suitable for coloration: (a) at least one pyridine derivative of the general formula (I), or one of the physiologically compatible salts of these compounds as the developer component; in said formula, R and R represent, independently of one another, hydrogen, a C1 to C4 alkyl group or a C1 to C4 hydroxyalkyl group, or together with the nitrogen atom, to which they are bonded, form an optionally substituted, saturated heterocyclic 5 or 6 membered ring which can contain an additional nitrogen atom or an oxygen atom, R represents hydrogen, a C1 to C4 alkyl group or a C1 to C4 hydroxyalkyl group, R and R represent, independently of one another, hydrogen, a C1 to C4 alkyl group or a C3 to C8 cycloalkyl group, R and R represent, independently of one another, hydrogen, a halogen atom, a C1 to C4 alkyl group, a C1 to C4 hydroxyalkyl group, a C1 to C4 aminoalkyl group or a C1 to C4 alkoxy group and n is a whole number from 1 to 8; and (b) at least one coupler component selected from a group containing 1-naphthol, 1,5-, 2,7- and 1,7-dihydroxynaphthalene, 5-amino-2-methylphenol, m-aminophenol, resorcine, resorcine monomethyl ether, m-phenylenediamine, 1-phenyl-3-methyl-pyrazolone-5, 2,4-dichloro-3-aminophenol, 1,3-to-(2,4-diaminophenoxy)propane, 2,4-diaminophenoxyethanol, 2-chlororesorcin, 4-chlororesorcin, 2-chlor-6-methyl-3-aminophenol, 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridine, 2-methylresorcin, 5-methylresorcin, 3-amino-6-methoxy-2-methylaminopyridine, 2,5-dimethylresorcin, 2,6-dihydroxy-3,4-diaminopyridine, 6-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoxaline, o-aminophenol and 2-methyl-4-chloro-5-aminophenol. The inventive colorants are characterised by intense colours, in particular in the red-brown range and by excellent colour fastness.

This invention relates to a hair dyeing composition showing excellent dyeing ability comprising at least one direct acting hair dye and N-(2-methoxybenzyl) urea. The direct acting hair dyes are preferably selected from anionic, acidic dyestuffs. In addition to N-(2-methoxybenzyl) urea, compositions further comprise organic solvents and/or benzyl urea and/or benzyl carbamate as penetration enhancers. Compositions according to the invention has a pH in the range from 1 to 5 and preferably comprises polymeric thickening agents, organic and/or inorganic acids and conditioning agents.

The invention relates to agents for dying keratin fibers, particularly human hair which, in a medium suited for dyeing, contain, as oxidation dye precursors, a combination consisting of: a) 2,4-dichloro-3-aminophenol, and; b) at least one compound according to formula (I) or of a physiologically compatible salt of these compounds. The inventive agents enable particularly intensive dyeings with excellent fastness properties and a particularly broad covering of the color palette. In addition, they are characterized by their exceedingly good toxicological properties.
