    摘要: A washer/drier with a new pump arrangement. In the new arrangement a first pump is adapted to pump washing liquid to the treatment chamber, and a second pump is provided which is adapted to pump water through a venturi vacuum forming device for establishing below ambient pressure in the treatment chamber, typically during a spin-drying cycle. The second pump can be operated selectively to pump water to the treatment chamber for rinsing articles therein or to supply water to the venturi vacuum forming device. The treatment chamber comprises an elliptical drum having perforated wall regions at opposite internal ends thereof to the rear of which liquid is supplied or through which it is drawn out from during washing and rinsing, and through which air is drawn during the drying cycle.

    摘要: The invention relates to a cleaning apparatus which uses as operative fluid liquid and/or supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) or other dense-phase fluids such as ammonia or hydrocarbons. The apparatus may have various applications including the cleaning of garments and the degreasing of electronic or mechanical components; the apparatus comprises a cleaning chamber (1), basically formed by a pressurised container, and an installation for supplying the CO2 which includes a storage tank (30) and a distiller (31). Advantageously, in order to start a cleaning cycle, the chamber (1) is pressurised with gaseous CO2 taken from the tank and/or from the distiller which are then excluded from the path of the liquid CO2 used for the actual cleaning. The invention also comprises a special cleaning chamber (1) having a lid and a cylindrical jacket, that are provided with respective mating edges between which operates an improved seal suitable for preventing leakage of supercritical fluids.

    摘要: A piece of soiled fabric (39) is cleaned by contacting it with a jet of an ionized soil-dislodging gas to dislodge the soil therefrom. An apparatus (30) for accomplishing the cleaning includes a container (36) having an interior (38) in which the fabric (39) is received, a gas jet nozzle (46) directed into the interior (38) of the container (36), a source (50, 52) of a pressurized gas communicating with an inlet of the gas jet nozzle (46), a gas jet manifold (44) extending from the source (50, 52) to the gas jet nozzle (46), and a gas ionizer (80) disposed to ionize the pressurized gas passing through the gas jet nozzle (46).

An apparatus may also be employed for conserving carbon dioxide vapor in a carbon dioxide dry cleaning system employing a liquid carbon dioxide cleaning solution to clean articles, where the apparatus includes a wash tank for contacting the articles to be cleaned with the liquid carbon dioxide cleaning solution, a working tank for storing liquid carbon dioxide cleaning solution, a vapor tank for storing carbon dioxide vapor, a first piping system providing fluid communication between the wash tank and the vapor tank, where the first piping system includes a first line and a first valve residing in the first line, and a second piping system providing fluid communication between the working tank and the wash tank. Methods and apparatus for collecting liquid carbon dioxide in a collecting tank are also provided.
