A diverter assembly (502) used with a manifold of an oil or gas well is described. The diverter assembly (502) comprises a housing (504) having an internal passage (508) having first and second ports. The manifold has a choke body (500), which, in a first configuration, forms part of a first flowpath (10, 500, 530) to and from a bore of the manifold. The first port of the internal passage is connected to the choke body (500) and the second port of the internal passage is connected to a conduit to provide an alternative flowpath (10, 500, 520, 544) to/from a bore of the manifold via the diverter assembly (502). A method of diverting fluids is also described.

A casing annulus remediation system for overcoming problems associated with lowering a flexible hose (51) into an annulus (21) between strings (13, 15, 17, 19) of casing in a petroleum well by pressurizing the hose (51) so that the hose is rigid and may be forced down the annulus. A nozzle (65) is affixed to the lower end of the hose. The hose may be inserted several hundred feet into the well. Therefore, the hose (51) is pressurized to maintain rigidity to keep the hose from winding about the well during deployment. To keep the hose rigid, internal pressure is maintained in the hose (51). The nozzle (65) is provided with a burst disk (69) that holds the pressure. Once the hose is lowered to a desired depth, an operator may increase the pressure sufficiently in the hose to break the disk (69), thereby allowing heavy liquid to flow out.

A shearing type of gate valve (10) having a sleeve (44) of hard wear resistant material in the opening (42) through the gate and coacting with insert rings (46, 48) of hard, wear resistant material in the seat rings (34, 36) for shearing a wire line (50) or tubular member extending through the valve and the gate. The sleeve and insert ring are assembled with the gate and the seat rings in a manner to provide sufficient compression preload thereon so that they are not subjected to tension loads which avoids chipping, breaking or other damage to the sleeve and the insert rings. Preferably the sleeve and insert rings are of tungsten carbide. In two modified forms of the present invention an insert sleeve of hardened, wear resistant material is provided in the opening of the gate and an insert ring of hardened, wear resistant material is provided in one of the seat rings so that the only a single shearing of the cable element is provided so that the short section is not created in the shearing and left in the opening through the gate while it is closed.
