摘要： A wrap-around carrier (10) suitable for packaging tub-shaped articles (T). The bottom panel is formed from an inner flap (20) to which article retainer flaps (28) are hinged and an outer flap (22) to which a locking tab (40) is hinged. The retainer flaps are pivoted into the the interior of the carrier by the locking tabs (40) and include foldable side extensions (56) which engage the bottom portions of adjacent spaced articles. A slit or opening (58) between the retaining flaps permits entry of a locking tab (40). A projection (46) on the locking tabs engaging the retainer flaps adjacent an edge (66) thereof prevents withdrawal of the locking tabs from their activated positions.

The carton may be in the form of a basket type carton having a central handle section (13). The other base panel (14) has two push up flaps which, when the base panels (14, 15) are assembled, extend into the slots. The push up flaps (19) and the end portion (23), in use, engage, between adjacent pairs of bottles to reduce bottle contact.

The hinge connection of the hinge panels (25) provides a firm area for engagement by the substantially straight, continuous edge provided by a series of engaging members (52) mounted on an endless chain.

The stream of pressurized gas is directed at the carton sleeve such that it opens and maintains the relatively rectangular dimensions of the carton sleeves to permit the article cartoning machine to successfully load articles into an optimally sized carton.
