摘要: A hot melt impulse ink jet ink is disclosed which comprises a C 20 -C 24 acid or alcohol containing vehicle, preferably behenic acid, and a suitable coloring agent. One preferred ink comprises about 80% natural behenic acid, 15% of a ketone (such as stearone), 3% coloring agent, and 2% of a plasticizer intended to improve print quality. The inks are jettable at relatively high temperatures (80°-90°C) using impulse ink jet devices.

摘要: An elongate acoustic waveguide (20) couples a transducer (18) to an ink jet chamber (14) including an inlet port'and an outlet orifice (16) through which droplets of ink are ejected. A compensating rod (19) has one end rigidly connected to one end of the transducer (18) and its other end secured, for example by means of adhesive (25) within a receptacle in a backplane (27). This arrangement serves to reduce or obviate resonance phenomena produced when the transducer is in operation.

摘要: An ink jet apparatus comprises a chamber (200) having a diaphragm (210) preloaded to a deformed position when the transducer (204) is in its de-energised state. Upon energisation, the diaphragm (210) returns to a substantially planar condition so as to permit filling of the chamber (200) from an inlet prior to firing a droplet from a chamber orifice (202) when the transducer (204) is de-energised and the diaphragm (210) again assumes it preloaded, deformed condition.

摘要: A steel printing band (30) is looped around a pair of capstans (40) covered by sleeves (44) made of elastomeric material. The sleeves (44) include a plurality of downwardly angled flexible circumferential flanges (46) and a lower horizontal rim (48). The band (30) contacts the flanges (46) and as the capstans rotate, inward force on the band is transferred to a downward force by means of the flanges. The downward force causes the band (30) to move into contact with the lower horizontal rim (48), thereby vertically aligning the band in the printer. In an alternate embodiment, a plurality of non-flexible circumferential ridges are included. The central ridges extend farther out from the surface of the sleeves and serve to define a crown. The sleeve configuration serves to reduce wear and accurately alingn the printing band (30) within the printer assembly.

摘要: A locking system for directly clamping the tractor assemblies (16) in a printer to the stationary platen (14) in order to prevent any relative motion of the tractors with respect to the platen which may be caused by a lack of straightness of a drive bar (22) which drives the tractors. The locking device includes an L-shaped lever (26) which is pivotal so as to clamp a rearwardly extending portion (24) of the platen between the bottom of the tractor (16) and the top (26a) of a leg (26a) of the lever. The device may include a cam action locking knob (30) which positively locks the lever (26) in its clamped position. Both the lever and the knob are made of molded plastic. In order to balance the clamping force which is applied, a lever (26) may be connected to each side of the tractor (6) and actuated by a pair of connected cam action knobs (30). Several alternate locking systems are also disclosed.

摘要: A hammer bank assembly (10) for use in line printers. The assembly includes an extruded metal rearframe (12) having a uniform thickness and a plurality of machined mounting surfaces which are machined in accurate relationship with respect to one another. A pair of extruded plastic shoes (14,16) are mounted to the top and bottom of the frame (12) and also include machined surfaces for accurately aligning them with respect to the frame. The shoes (14, 16) include a plurality of mounting slots (20, 21) which are cut by means of a gang cutter. The slots (20, 21) serve to accurately align a plurality of print hammers (22) in the shoes (14,16). The hammers (22) are insulated with respect to the frame (12) and the shoes (14, 16) in order to prevent sliding motion and subsequent wearing of the print hammers. Also disclosed are several methods of simplifying the construction procedure of the hammer bank assembly ( 10 ).

摘要: This invention is a printer and a method for printing hot melt ink in which an ink jet (10) is surrounded by an enclosure (60), and including a heater (30) for heating the air within the enclosure (60). The enclosure (60) has an opening so that the heated air can be directed towards a medium (99) for heating the medium (99) prior to ejecting droplets of hot melt ink onto the medium. The ink droplets cool and solidify into a shape having a low contact angle.

摘要: Ink jet chambers (30) of an array of ink jet devices extend laterally outwardly form a linear array of elongated transducers (26). This configuration creates two sets of linear arrayed orifices (14a, 14b) utilizing a single linear array of transducers so as to provide large field, high density printing for use in, for exemple, printing bar codes (20).

摘要: A work station user selects a desired printer default configuration (24 and 26). Thereupon an address exclusively associated with the selected default configuration (24 and 26) is appended to the print data sent from the work station (12 and 14) to the printer (16). Default configuration (24 and 26) setting circuitry provided, e.g., in a circuit card (22) installed in the printer (16) receives the address and, via a look-up table, provides instructions for implementing the default configuration (24 and 26) associated with the address. The printer (16) is then configured in accordance with the selected default configuration (24 and 26).
