Process for emission spectroscopy, especially laser emission spectroscopy, in which the radiation (40) emitted by the laser-induced plasma of the material to be analysed is broken down by a spectrometer (10) and at least one part of the spectrum found is transferred to a processing device (31, 45) for element analysis. In order to obtain the best possible accuracy of measurement and speed in the process, it is conducted in such a way that the intensity of the plasma-forming laser radiation (2) is varied to generate defined plasma states dependently upon at least one emission-influencing parameter which is measured during the formation of the plasma, and the spectrum found or a part thereof is transferred to the processing device (31, 45) provided that the measured plasma parameter lies within a predetermined tolerance range (T1 ./. T2).

Analysis of plasma data indicative of gaseous species therein, such as Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) data, is aided through the interactive use of a computer. OES data may be calibrated by the computer with minimal input from the user regarding a gas the user knows or suspects is present. The computer then assumes the presence of that gas and assigns relative intensity peaks to known wavelengths for that gas, allowing calibration to take place. Selective identification of particular gases from the data is also possible. Used in conjunction with selective identification, a learning function allows the system to improve the accuracy of future gaseous species identification. Certain characteristics of a particular gas over time, such as intensity at a particular wavelength or at all wavelengths, may also be automatically plotted.

Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Verfahren sowie eine Vorrichtung zur Zuführung von Probenmaterial zum Plasma eines ICP-AES-Spektrometers mittels einer Gaszuführungseinrichtung. Es wird ein Probenbehälter eingesetzt, der in das zum Plasma führende Zentralrohr einmündet. Ein Gasstrom wird zwischen Einmündung und Rohr eingeleitet. Die Vorrichtung ist dabei so konstruiert, daß verfahrensgemäß der im Zentralrohr aufsteigende Gasstrom die Mittelachse umhüllt. Dadurch wird das pulver- oder dampfförmige Probenmaterial entlang dieser Mittelachse verlust- und verunreinigungsfrei zum Plasma transportiert. Die Menge des zugeführten Probenmaterials läßt sich über den Gasdruck regeln.
